BomberBall Run Marble League (BBRML) – Working Title – Coming soon pending interest!

BomberBall Run Marble League (BBRML) – Working Title – Coming soon pending interest!

Hi all. Hope you’re all well and getting some much needed Vitamin D boosts from the early springtime sun.

Anyway as I’ve been hinting here and there I’ve been developing a marble league that will be coming to blitz later this year.

What is a marble league?

A marble league is basically racing style sports, converted to marble form. So it could be something like a 100m sprint, a slalom run, or even a F1 style racing event!

What is the BomberBall Run League?

Basically it will be our very own version. We’ll be in charge, we’ll set the rules.

What features will the BBRL have?

So many to choose from, but here are a few highlights.

  • All the track is 3D printed. 100% of it. No commercial products. We can make all sorts whether it be a 1v1 style race to a full on 14 team F1 style race.

  • Marbles. Unlike other places who will name their green teams, green team, we’ll be able to name our own teams. Depending on the interest we may even in future ask for a small donation to have rights to a team. You could even send me marbles to use! Marbles will be in ‘teams’ of 5. All same colour but you’re welcome to name them and include a captain.

  • Timing. The biggest thing about any sport that involves racing is timing. What started off a simple hit the end, see who won, kind of thing is now fully digitised! I’m talking auto starting gates with random drop times, timing screens, milli second precision* (on most things, or hundredths at the worst). We’ll also be able to keep track of lap times for multi lap events, fastest times (updated live during the event), leaderboard, individual marble timings, positions etc… I’m not talking one marble at a time either I’m talking up to about 14 unique teams right now. Sector times for now is a future plan if the budget comes by. Costs about $200 per sector unfortunately.

  • Other fun stats. Fastest speed, by individual or of group and that sort of thing.

  • Mechanical. Start line is automated. No manual fingers to then be accused of cheating. I’ve implemented F1 style starts. 5 lights, random wait between 200ms and 3000ms, then it’s light out and go.

  • 1v1 style events. Think track running or a winter Olympics style slalom to something as silly as two marbles roll into each other, see who pushes the other marble back the most.

  • Team events. Think relays.

  • Lap events. So this could be something like a cross country rally to a F1 style circuit.

  • Reusable. The track can be broken down and rearranged to make different configurations. You’re welcome to provide your own ideas.

  • Cameras. It’s me here. You’ll get good footage.

  • Live days. Private bomberblitz functions! I do have a nice outdoor bbq near me which we can use as well.

What help do I need?

Well given the list, there is a fair bit of assistance that would be appreciated to anyone who is willing to help. I would ideally like two helpers who would become the core and as many ‘one off’ or occasional helpers as possible.

I won’t ask for any monetary help, but don’t get upset if it wasn’t implemented due to costs.

What jobs can I do to help with?

Nothing for now. Pending in future if needed.

Too much text. Give us a sample!

Here’s a very raw and early test of what’s to come. Nothing is final here, nothing fits properly anyway!

Final Notes

So please share your thoughts and hopefully we’ll be able to build a really good and fun community!

Hopefully you’ll all be on board and really get into it. It’s a project I’ve been dreaming of in the background but without a community to get around it, it will probably end up as landfill which would be quite sad.

Thanks for reading and feel free to leave comments, feedback or if you want to be part of the organisers!

I had no idea this existed. Here is an F1 example.

I did take a lot of inspiration from this. Ours will be better.

Looks pretty cool. I don’t really have the time (and don’t really know how to use my kids 3d printer!), but might float it with a couple of people to see if they’re keen.

You dont need to help physically, you can just watch enjoy and comment!

One of the track pieces being printed.

Bit gray for now, but with a bit of paint will look cool.

7 hour print btw.

Seems people think I need a lot of people to do this. I don’t. I can do it all, but that’s a bit lonely!

Everyone can enjoy it. Everyone can play along.

@wimmera1 all the technical stuff will be done. All the spreadsheets are self generated (well it’s really just timing sheets).

Even if you don’t know i’m happy to pass along what skills I have.

Life happened for me it was a wake up call, and all of a sudden what was hard became easy. Just need to try my friend

Bit surprised @scotty21 hasn’t been through yet to claim a ‘green vegetable’ team…

I’m in

Bump!

Need enthusiasm!

If the cucumber wins ill be excited

So is it just team cucumber? Is that the name?

What are the marble names? Who is the captain?

What backstory does the team have? When was it founded?

Never change chatgpt

Team Name: Team Cucumber

Founded: 2012, during the annual Marbleball Championship.

Motto: “Fresh, Fierce, and Ready to Roll!”

Backstory:

Team Cucumber began as an underdog team, founded by a group of former garden gnomes who got tired of being stuck on lawns and decided to chase a new dream: competitive marble racing. Originally known as “The Gnome Rollers,” the team rebranded to Team Cucumber after their beloved leader, Captain Pickle, suggested it. The name stuck due to their team philosophy: they may look simple and unassuming on the outside, but they are cool under pressure and crunch the competition when it counts.

Captain: Captain Pickle

  • Marble Name: Cucumber Green (CG)
  • Appearance: A smooth, medium-green marble with streaks of darker green and a signature dimple on the side (it’s their “pickle scar”).
  • Backstory: Pickle was once a lonely marble rolling in a backyard, where they were found by the team’s founder, Spade, who recognized their potential. As captain, Pickle embodies the “cool under pressure” mentality, making them a calm and strategic leader. Though always laid-back, Pickle knows when to motivate the team and keep the energy high.

Team Roster & Marble Names:

  1. Salsa Sparkle
  • Marble Name: Fiery Salsa
  • Appearance: Bright red with swirling orange accents.
  • Role: The team’s speedster. Salsa’s quick reflexes make them the fastest in races, but they’re a bit reckless and always pushing the limits.
  • Backstory: Salsa was found at a taco festival, where they nearly rolled off the table but showed off their incredible speed. Salsa’s always living life in the fast lane.
  1. Guacamole Grip
  • Marble Name: Avocado Twist
  • Appearance: A soft, smooth light green with dark pit-like spots on their surface.
  • Role: The strategist. Avocado has excellent control over their speed and direction, always knowing when to take the perfect turn.
  • Backstory: A fan favorite, Avocado is known for their precise grip and ability to pull off stunning recoveries. The team always looks to them for game-changing tactics.
  1. Chili Crunch
  • Marble Name: Spicy Zing
  • Appearance: Deep red with fiery yellow streaks across the surface, creating a “chili pepper” look.
  • Role: The wild card. Chili is unpredictable, with a tendency to surprise opponents with daring moves, but they can also cause chaotic, unplanned moments.
  • Backstory: Found at a chili cook-off, Chili brings the heat in every match. Their unpredictability makes them an essential part of Team Cucumber, though their strategy is mostly about keeping opponents on their toes.
  1. Pickled Perfection
  • Marble Name: Brine Master
  • Appearance: A clear glass marble with greenish hues and a hint of yellow, like a jar of perfectly pickled cucumbers.
  • Role: The team’s defensive powerhouse. Brine’s smooth, slippery surface makes them tough to tackle, and they’re amazing at blocking other marbles from overtaking.
  • Backstory: Pickled Perfection was once a forgotten marble in a jar of pickles, but their ability to slip through tight corners quickly earned them a spot on the team

Sorry, your marbles are all green. I’m not programming multi coloured marble teams… for now.

Oh, I thought they were real marbles?
I thought we’d be sending them to you…
I’m a little confused, obviously.

You are welcome to donate your own marbles if you want to.

I might need to re-write the intro cause you seem very confused.

Okay, yeah.
Scotty’s description made me think it was virtual.

Give me 15 minutes and i’ll film and upload a super early preview of what a race may look like.
