This bit of intel from @bombercos , assuming its kosher, and @Go_Team_2.0 also reminding us of the clearly overrated bollocks around our core players Scott spouted lands most with me as to our dilemma.
So, where are we now? Second last, a laughing stock again, weird selections and game plan familiarity etc. etc. I’m just angry we’re tethered to this coach now in Y4 of his tenure. The squad seems listless, no burning desire by the senior guys to meet the heat of battle when as ever it comes in games, seemingly leaderless (or very few leaders) and quite possibly affecting negatively our recent draftees of these past 2-3 years.
I can’t see it improving after that AZ Day shocker, a type of second half performance that kills momentum and trust in players and the team. And if we’re poor vs Tiges, FC and WC in a few weeks, I want Scott jettisoned come the bye. And his Norf cronies. Just gone .. no more PC defensive crap from this guy.
I’d get Longmire and try as much as possible .. but if not, one of the new coaches who have fire in their belly and a sensible head and football brain will do.
They are already going this week with $20 GA and kids go free to the Bears game….is this an AFL decision or an attempt by our higher ups to try and get a crowd there?
That’s why Iam saying and I think those numbers are fudged anyway if they are giving them away, or like what they tried with me last year was they offered a gift voucher that could be used to “purchase” the membership
Yep.
It definitely has.
Kayo isn’t such an issue. Every club gets the equalised version of the TV rights deal.
But membership and attendance (cut of the gate + food sales + merch) definitely affects the club and usually forces action.
When we got rid of Knights, it was because of the drop off in membership and attendance. I think it was sub standard attendance to big games at the MCG and poor attendance to our last game at Etihad.
There were ‘plans being made’ expecting him to fail, but once membership and attendance was affected it was an easy call for the board. A board will always do what it takes to elongate their time on the board, so we hitched our wagon to Hird (which saved the board).
The board will act on Brad Scott if a similar thing occurs with membership and attendance.
I suspect there’ll be a board challenge before the year is out if things are heading that way anyway.
It’s the perfect opportunity to take over.
Spot on, I seen a thing a little while ago about the swans and how a season is unprofitable for them if they don’t make finals because of the ticket sales.
I would imagine it would be the same for us especially if our big games don’t fill like Anzac Day, Dreamtime, Hawks and Carlton
The young guys mainly struggled. Robey and Sharp were a million miles off. farrow had his struggles with defending, kaKo was average at best, Day wicks had some moments. Caddy and Roberts who are more experienced did well as did El Houli. Young players are going to be up and down in their form, so no surprise they struggled on Anzac Day. Then you have senior guys struggling and you have a recipe for disaster. Somehow, you can’t get your head around EFC are a bottom three team. It seems to be in your mind that EFC are a wildcard team.
No one thinks that at all and of course the kids will have up and down days.
The senior so called leaders have to set the standard and the kids have to try to get to that standard. It’s not an unreasonable expectation that senior players should actually lead by example and not be the ones that are squibbing contests, constantly fumbling, constantly refusing to chase, tackle or harass.
Unfortunately when your seniors are rotten to the core the stench permeates through the group. Thankfully some of these kids are doing their best to take over the running of the club and we can start weeding the senior blokes out
While all of that is good and well, what changes do you suggest?
Gameplan?
Players
Players roles?
There are some limitations with the list, and available players. We are very young, and we don’t really have a competitive ruck. Our key forwards aren’t really ready to be key forwards, and we don’t have small forwards.
We are going to auck for a while.
The question is whether what Scott’s doing is maximising the development in an environment where the team sucks, so that we can not suck sooner. I think the answer to that is obviously NO.
Shouldn’t stop us trying something different though surely.
Give Sharp a decent go at it, give Robey a burst in there, give ADW a bit more etc, etc.
let’s at least see what we’ve got
Doesn’t seem they’re anywhere near fit enough at this stage. Not against giving them a ‘burst’ in there, but I doubt it’s improving anything much this year
That’s fair. I do r know that they’re ready though, and will still be trying to make an impact behind a ruck who is getting beaten.
I also think we lack explosiveness, even in the young guys, which is part of the issue, we don’t have guys who can accelerate with impact either offensively or defensively.
No one is saying to play them in there all day but a 5-10 bust every quarter is fine if you rotate them through. Get some different energy and dynamics in there
