And you all just figured this out? I still can’t believe some of blitzers thought we had a list good enough to finish above bottom 4 at a minimum.
Worse, some of them think the only reason that we are ■■■■ right now is Brad. lol.

It’s not just that we played rubbish against the Hawks, but the same rubbish that had been dished out year after year. Maybe it is not all Brad’s fault, but something must change. I would be planning for a change at the bye, and start scouting for a replacement now. Welsh and co have 10 weeks to find and appointment a replacement.
Do you know what’s hilarious, we left 10 minutes into the third quarter and on the way out I saw Bomber Thompson and another past player leaving the G lmao.
He might emulate his old mentor Paul Roos, who turned a shitshow into a club on the road to a flag.
His reply in the herbatron thread should be Insta ban
My brother and I left at half time. The last 10mins of the 2nd qtr was so diabolically familiar that we both knew this song and left then and there. And there was a lot of people walking towards Flinders then also.
Not Longmire. He inherited a team set up by Roos and chock full of sensational players, and specialised in losing the most important games. He is not the coach to turn a rabble into a machine.
Long Johnmire
Good post.
Again, I’m not saying Scott is the answer and he should coach beyond this year.
I am saying however that a new coach will quickly become enemy number one with fans if he too has to bring forward a bottom four young team that has its fair share of floggings in 2027 and 2028 and beyond. When those flogging inevitably come, fans will complain about weak defensive aspects, lack of intensity etc etc. they will probably be agitating that this coach isn’t the answer too. That’s just the way it always is and that’s why some clubs have succeeded in resisting the outside noise and pressure groups and backed in their strategy and plans.
I’m hoping he coaches for this name alone, beats big d@#* Brad any day.
would explain what he’s doing on his laptop in the coaches box during games
my new favourite blitz meme is “proper process”
several dozen posters wishing for a “proper process” to find a new coach, and not a single attempted explanation of what a proper process is supposed to be
posting an ad on linkedin? scouting at ovens & murray matches? psychometric testing? australian idol type audition?
So we shouldn’t get a new coach because the fans might be whingy?
Everyone loves to use the Hardwick and Thompson examples, but never really say how they are relevant to us. The situations aren’t the same.
Do you think Melbourne would have won their flag if they just ‘stuck with their plan’ with Mark Neeld?
I think the proper process is we let some other club do all the interviewing and backgrounding, and once they have picked someone, we just offer fkloads of money to steal them.
Good point!
No, I didn’t say this means Essendon shouldn’t replace Scott at the end of this year.
Essendon might remove Scott and appoint a terrific coach for 2027. A terrific coach. The challenge with Essendon is that ‘Essendon people’ likely won’t afford the next terrific coach 3 years of bottom four finishes and will be looking to sack them too. That’s just the way fans are. Bottom four teams unsurprisingly play ugly footy that lacks fundamentals and is uncompetitive on a regular basis. They will frustrate, fans will lament and they / media will heap pressure on the next coach too, even if he is a terrific coach.
At some point Essendon will have to show total solidarity to the execution of its strategy and not give in to the pressure groups. It is only when they accomplish this the club will break through the cycle of failure loop and reemerge as a successful club. That time will come and the club will either break through or fail again into the next failure loop.
Do you think if Scott does get sacked this year, it will just be because of pressure groups and impatient fans? Or because he has failed at his job?
At this point in time, for Essendon, I suspect “proper process” for hiring a coach would be to put out an EOI, screen candidates, shortlist candidates, interview shortlisted candidates, make a final decision… and then do the exact opposite of that decision.
Both.
I think what we normally do is put our EOI out get candidates and then go to someone and beg them to coach us.
