BD Brad will get a flag in the next 4-6 years.
Whether that’s at the Bombers or from a pole at the local government primary school is to be seen.

That is the best article from a coach of Essendon since Bomber Thompson did a similar style article in 2014.
Please let him work out, PLEASE.
Brad stating what Blitz has know for years. I like that he’s publicly acknowledged all those issues, now to start the hard work to fix them. Good luck Brad, the light at end of the tunnel seems a long way off at this point, but he appears to be the man for the job.
It won’t.
We will turf him out after a few years.
They (the club) and us (the fans) are going to have to be patient through that time as we set about fixing the club. Some of the solutions will fail (which we’ll hate), but without change…
Well…
We know what those results gave us.
We will run out of patience and want results when we’ve barely earned the right to them.
That’s what we stand for. That’s who we are.
Which is where Vozzo, Barham etc. need to be resolute and ignore the external noise.
Hopefully they can do that.
Just shows you how much Rutten was not up for the job.
Brad is extremely intelligent and has a maturity necessary to highlight cultural issues as a key contributor to football issues.
The worst thing we could have done would have been to stick with Rutten…it would have delayed us another few years.
Scott knows this is a reset and it’s the entire motivation for the job. Most other coaches (including Lyon) would have taken the short cuts and sugar hits.
I think they will try.
But our external noise is rather hard to ignore.
The mixture of sports media and fans will be very toxic.
I don’t see them holding them off the way Brendan Gale and Peggy O’Neil did. We’re probably around 3 to 4 years away from reaching that point (making finals consistently, winning more than 12 games at least twice, having a home final, etc).
And we usually start our expectations as soon as we creep into the 8 rather than after actually…
You know…
Performing.
Everyone would read that and get a clear view of the path ahead. An excellent summary of what we can and importantly, should expect. So, we’re all holding hands and being patient, knowing there will be some pain and challenges ahead. Aligned
As long as we win today, right?!!
A lame performance today and the fans will be fuming, demanding a crisis be created wanting changes now! Led by Timmy, Robbo and Lloydy?!
Let’s just hope the pressure that comes is realistic and balanced. We all rightly expect effort. Everything else is going to vary from week to week.
And @Finding_Nino , that means we may not necessarily win today
Brace!
Some very interesting comments around standards and the recent compliant nature of the club towards players.
I also think it points towards there being much more involved in a rebuild than just ‘play the kids’. While he points towards ensuring they have opportunity, it is also about ensuring they are physically prepared to perform. The biggest rebuild involves player standards, club expectations and all of organisation focus.
Certainly suggests we won’t be chasing players like Ben McKay.
To be fair to Rutten, based on this article and Scott’s remarks, Rutten wasn’t set up to succeed with what he was surrounded by. That’s the clear takeout.
If we tip him out after a few years, it’s just more of the same and the club will NEVER succeed.
It’ll be good bye from me too.
I suspect many departments that we freely criticise on the outside of the club have in fact been hugely under resourced. Many have not been set up to succeed.
Llyod knows the hole we are in and that it requires more than quick fixes.
Robbo is my moron.
I think the fan base will get behind Brad as long as he is transparent and holds the club, himself and players accountable.
There’s nothing the fans hate more than the players clearly not showing up but the coach whitewashes the performance behind the cliches.
Yeah I agree…but he wasn’t the type that had the confidence and assurance to identify what was necessary and execute.
Rutten, at best is an assistant coach. A senior coach requires a whole different character…plus you have to have a decent portion of ■■■■ in you.

Attitude and application to the job are the priorities now, long, long, overdue.
Forget results for the time being, and judge the team on how they play will be the mantra.
There might be a big name or two shoved off at the end of the year, replaced with guys who actually want to crack in hard.
Certainly suggests we won’t be chasing players like Ben McKay.
Not necessarily true. Ben McKay is still young and based on how we progress, could be a great option to grow with the list.
I don’t think Brad is saying there isn’t flexibility in the rebuild, but it needs to make sense with the bigger picture.
3-5 seasons isn’t that long. If you say you can’t wait that long then I guess you’re happy enough to not celebrate any future success that might follow
His comments around Reid and key defenders tell me we won’t be going after McKay.
A bit harsh. You can understand the frustration felt by fans when being told to wait longer, again. Bomber fans don’t deserve to be required to be more patient. This being the case, there’s no alternative.
