Brad Scott probems to sort out (Part 1)

You can almost bet Slobbo and Sheedy will be in each others ear at around the mid point of next year. Nothing surer.

I’m over these articles. Changing a coach alone can’t fix the issues featured and aren’t really Scott’s responsibility.

I felt at the time Rutten was sacked he was a little hard done by. Would have liked to see what he was capable of with a bit more unity behind the scenes.

That being said there were still some very big flaws in Rutten’s game plan and the performance he was getting from players just wasn’t there, so I can see why we moved him on.

I’d much rather Scott talk about how he will address our issues gameday instead of talking about the stuff out of his control.

Essendon aren’t entitled to quick fixes - Worsfold said that, Rutten said that etc. won’t stop supporters believing it or the media demanding it.

We are taking a long term approach - Rutten preached that too;

Resetting the culture - Merrett and Rutten preseason last year etc.

It will be exciting to watch these prospects develop as the season unfolds.

I think the clock is ticking on dodo …

The ghost of Worsfold.

Can’t believe he gave a shout out to @Finding_Nino

Woosha literally said the same thing. He was never the problem in his tenure.

The youngsters will get plenty of opportunities by round 4 to 5 I think the team will look significantly different eg Hobbs , Voss coming into the team

Woosha legitimately said we would become very good very quickly FFS

He tried to explain this, in different ways and words, at a far more sensitive time. He clearly said how the players needed to be more accountable, to push themselves, to not just be happy with being on a list. Yet - people will interpret things as they do, prejudices run strong, blind outrage prevails, and everyone defends their opinion to the death.

If Dodoro goes on Monday, literally everything will be different for Scott. No X…no Brash…no Dods…different board.

Plus whoosh wasn’t brought in to rebuild…he was hired for stability. He actually did a decent job on that side of things.

Brad is the guy to redesign the club and culture.

I expect a fair list cleanout at the end of the year. There will be blokes that simply can’t adjust to Brads high performance culture.

This is a good thing.

I also expect with such a great investment into development coaching, by the end of the year, we should have some very promising young players.

If employees can’t get with the program, they can move on, or be moved on.

Brad is creating momentum.

Yeah, nah. Nuanced differences - for one, the club has never implied our players collectively were happy just to exist as AFL players and their application was below elite standard, something fans have said for years.

Until Dodoro is gone and we clean out our recruiting department, I’m sorry… I just don’t feel it.

Brad absolutely lurking BB.

What an article.

We are in for a world of pain, but I really hope he works out.

Scott, thus, sought assurances from Barham and the board that he ‘‘would be given the authority and autonomy to work in football without undue distraction’’.

Hopefully these assurances aren’t like the ones Sheedy sought from Barham!

Not for rebuilding, no, because the board believed we were going to contend for the premiership then Woosha said “hang on… you gotta work harder than that because we ain’t entitled to premierships like that.” Then people lost their minds and blamed everything on him.

Scott is pretty much doing the same thing except that now everyone - well, almost everyone - agrees that we are rebuilding.

The question is, will the board and co honour Brad’s words? I hope so because we are bottom four, full stop. We must take the slow path.

THE words from every new coach have been that were miles away from it. The line from internal, and the club’s goals, has been we need to win in the short term to prop up the balance sheet and keep members paying. Listen to what Worsfold said about the club, for example.

The real challenge is whether Scott can actually corral the club to go forward as one with a development focus. Or whether 3 losses in a row has the coteries calling for change

I think half of blitz and RoCo can breathe a sigh of relief that we haven’t been crazy and the dumpster fire of what we were seeing on the field and out of the clubs messaging has finally been acknowledged as true by a senior person at the club.

I put that squarely at the feet of Little, X, the politician (so insignificant his name is not worthy of writing), Brasher all who failed the Ess fans miserably. I don’t buy the whole we weren’t focussing on football and just wanted to make cash argument fully either. I think it’s a messaging excuse made by the new leadership to save face of just incompetence.

My main reasoning for that is Wooshas attitude in the lead up to the 2017 and 2018 season where they thought adding in the saga players and quick youth injections of 2015/16 would give them a flag tilt. The SSS was a desperate move to double down which backfired miserably. They were trying to win and get back to the top. You could see it in his demeanour, and the the same with the failure as the season went on and the players capitulated.

All the comments from Scott about the players ties in very well with the impression that plays got special treatment and that created an attitude of just exiting in the AFL as a job. We have all heard the stories about the players running to Hepp and then X every time somebody was a bit tough on them only for whatever their little wish was to be granted.

The culture is completely broken. And it’s going to take years to fix. At this point at least Scott acknowledges the problems, many of which blitz has been screaming ant for years, and will attempt to fix them, only time will tell if he succeeds.
