Brad Scott probems to sort out (Part 1)

How predictably nonsensical.

Yeah nah Worsefold thought the team should coach themselves. That went well……

I don’t think the draft capital bit is as relevant, because of what Scott says later in the article (just after the part I quoted)

He said the reason they didn’t look to trade for a key defender was because they want to pump games into Reid and Z-T. Makes perfect sense.

But getting Weideman means that we don’t get to look at Jones, Bryan or Baldwin (Jones is only playing because of Wright’s injury)

Similarly, (and while I like Setterfield don’t get me wrong), the cost of getting him is that Hobbs, Caldwell and Tsatas get pushed out of the midfield.

I just don’t think we’re being consistent

Is he?

Yes

The Bombers were forced to make one on-field change to last night’s selected squad after key forward Peter Wright dislocated his shoulder at main training on Friday after landing awkwardly in a marking contest.

Wright’s unfortunate news opens the door for young forward Harrison Jones to step in and own full forward in his first round one game since 2021.

Wasn’t Jones selected before Wrights injury?

What’s going to be the hardest for many of us this year is we know we’re gonna be ■■■■ most of the time, we know that some teams are going to destroy us, we know we have some significant injury concerns that will impact the team, we know know some players we don’t think should be playing will play while Scott sees the team for himself, and we know that we’ve got a ■■■■ load of work to do to improve.

What makes that hard is that it’s yet another year of us being told to be patient and we’re young and figuring things out, but that’s the truth, and most of us will have moments of rage on here throughout the year, but ■■■■ if we can just get it right this time then maybe in another 3-5 years we just might not be getting told the same patience spill still and we might actually have some excitement about our club again.

Time will tell though, in the meantime, it’s gonna be a rough journey.

yes, they brought in phillips, totally rewriting history.

That’s not saying what you’re assuming.

Added to that, Worsfold was in the position of coming through the whole saga situation, and there was moral debt to be paid, real, inferred, or imagined. Not that easy to say ‘get rid of those that aren’t putting in’ as it is now.

The post-truth era.

Bryan is not a forward and has shown zilch at VFL level to suggest otherwise. Baldwin needs to find consistency in the seconds as well, and to be quite honest, I love Jones but he hasn’t fixed the key issues in his game that have plagued him for over a year - and to be fair to him, that’s probably not 100% on him entirely

As for the midfielders, 2 are injured - you’re assuming a fit Hobbs, Caldwell and Tsatas wouldn’t be picked ahead of depth

These players are stop gaps in areas we have no depth in. They are not key pieces of a flag tilt team

That’s fair. I feel it’s been said before (eg when Shiel arrived), but it was also more difficult to call out the saga players in that situation, so it was less likely to be said.

How we got to that point is clear though. The saga players were absolutely destroyed. No shock that they weren’t 100%. They probably thought they were but they were broken. That created the culture. They’ve almost all gone now, so it’s time to push the group.

It might be nuance, but as you said, as fans we’ve known it. The club has likely known it, but in the wake of the saga, just getting through that next 5 years was a fair goal.

I’m pretty sure Jones was named at CHF, that part is basically saying they’ll now play him at FF instead.

Not necessarily results but fans would want to see improvement in how we play over the journey.

What if 3-4 years pass and Essendon still are the same with no improvements?

I don’t think the club properly move forward until Dodoro is moved in. The latest rift Mahoney and having his role reduced along with not successfully building a list in 20 years shows it’s time for him to go. Also concerned we brought Keane back as that’s a step into the last and not forward.

Our fanbase will turn on him very quickly when the losses start mounting. All it will take is a few, demoralising Essington type losses, this year and next, before the idiot Facebook brigade start begging for an Essendon person to come in and save the day.

The previous 20 years is irrelevant. Yes, the club have told us to be patient for the previous two decades, only to kick us in the teeth continuously, but that is irrelevant going forward. People are understandably out of patience with the club, but the reality is that we are years away from matching it with the best.

It took both Thompson and Hardwick 7 years to turn their respective clubs from rabble, into 3x premiers. Clako needed about 8 years to turn Hawthorn from a mediocre rabble to a 3x flag winning side (2008 was an outlier, and even that took him 4 years). It took Roos and Goodwin 7 years to turn Melbourne around too.

We just need to bookmark the Harley Reid footage on youtube and the vision from when he came to train with us.

We need to constantly remind ourselves of the end goal when we are being pumped this season.

We are ■■■■ but we are building properly for once.

We haven’t done anything yet. How do you know we are building properly?

Probably been said but this argument is the greatest one against Dodoro and list management/building. Clearly we find ourselves in no man’s land. Like Hawthorn, we’re far too young especially in our key posts which ultimately win you flags
