I like it- it’s a good start.But why it didn’t happen 12 months ago? it’s completely baffling
The big question is ,will Scott actually play them or will he continue to go back to the underperforming senior guys if some of the youngsters play a poor game
Agree it should have started 2 years ago but at least its happening now. reckon the delay was due to Dodoro telling the club that the list is still good enough
Would be interesting to see how we’d look if we had gone full Football Manager and let Parish and Redman walk to FA, as well as Draper at the end of this year.
I really like the Zerrett/Durham/Caldwell CBA mix, and would like to see Tsatas and Hobbs get inside minutes. Of course Darcy is a jet at full fitness, but we could have received some juicy FA compo for him.
Rightly or wrongly, signing Parish, McGrath, and Redman on long-term deals has hamstrung our ability to go the Richmond hard and fast rebuild route.
Love the fact we’re hitting the draft and showing some nous around stockpiling points and future picks, we’re going to bloody well need them.
Hitting the draft would be a lot more exciting if we were hitting with multiple top end talent, actual top end of the draft. Not a bunch of after 30 picks that’ll probably be delisted in 10 months like most years.
We know it was in a non compromised draft so that in itself highlights we were worse off hanging on to Joe for the extra year. It was always a dumb decision. Unless we were planning on bottoming out you always look to trade while you have a contract than wait for compo. Yet another example of the list management being out of sync with the club direction. Joe had checked out and was never going to increase his value. Hoping he’d stay was farcical.
No predictions needed. We were never going to get better value from a free agent compo than trading him while contracted. The fact the 2020 draft was compromised simply makes its absolutely evident the decision was the wrong one.
So presumably we would have got Sydney’s first round 2019 (pick 5) and whatever their pick would have ended up being in 2020 as a future first. That would have put the second pick back in the compromised draft anyway.
I wouldn’t classify the Joe and Raz moves as an attempt to rebuild. Essendon actively tried to keep both. If we were in a rebuild mindset we would have lowballed our offer to either and happily let them move on. Something like James Frawley from Dees to Hawks.
We also haven’t engaged with any other clubs who have shown interest in one of our players aged 25-30.
Again - i don’t think trading Saad out counts as he wanted to leave and we really pushed hard for him to stay.
If we were in a rebuild mode we may have thrown out 2MP, Langford, Parish etc names like that to see if there was interest and get another first round pick in the 2024 draft.
