We have discussed this before, but would be interested to hear your views on the Rutten v Scott era.
It’s Blitz fact that apparently “Rutten was out of his depth” and that “we couldn’t defend” yet comparing Scott to Rutten, we see pretty similar overall results
Average points for
Rutten: 84
Scott: 82
Average points against
Rutten: 88
Scott: 88
Main difference is in win rate, obviously
Rutten: 40%
Scott: 50%
Interesting note is that under Scott and Rutten, our average loss margin has been the same at -32. So when we have lost, we have lost equally bad.
But under Rutten the average winning margin was much higher than Scott (+33, compared to +19 under Scott). 7 of Scott’s 22 wins have been by 6 points or under, compared to only 1 of Rutten’s 18 wins. Perhaps we have been a bit lucky under Scott…
Something Teach old dog new trick bla bla bla.
Saad El Hawli and Lewis Hayes should be debuted in the last two games, give Tsatas his first full game as a midfielder should be the very minimum Brad Scott does in the last few games. And don’t fckn dare bring back Goldstein or Wright.
Luke Hodge on Essendon and Brad Scott today, for all the sack the coach nuffies.
This could all be avoided if the coach changes.
Just about had enough of Luke Hodge telling us we are on the right track and to basically be patient and ride it out.
Meanwhile, his Hawks have already gone past us with a bunch of kids.
Good summary @Tagger.
We acted poorly in late 2022. No matter which way you cut it, that was poor form to treat Rutten like we did and we deserve a bit of the old fashioned karma as a result. People think we have progressed under Brad, but that’s because the dude is an a grade politician.
That doesn’t mean we should sack Brad. We are stuck with him for at least 2 more years and let’s be honest, he’ll be given at least 2 years beyond that even if results remain the same or even go south in 25 and 26. He is that good at spin and obfuscation.
But I think we should own up to the fact we have been a ■■■■ club both on and off the field for a while and humble ourselves a little bit.
And maybe just shut up over the offseason. No one should do any media. No ra-ras to pump up membership numbers. The press can come and watch training, but no one speaks.
I am so sick of them demanding unwarranted praise. How good are we, 17 players went to Colorado instead of Ibiza.
What about the other 27 players on the list? What did they do?
And our players want praise for going on a fitness camp to the US instead of taking pingas in Ibiza, seriously?
The more you analyse, cut and dice, it just becomes so obvious why we are as bad as we are.
They have a successful culture still in the walls of the place though. Our long drought means it’s harder to turn around, the same as the blues and tigers before us.
Yep, and they didn’t bring in Neale, Hodge and Cameron to do it either. I feel he wants us to remain ■■■■.
Luke Hodge hates Essendon. I would put 0 faith in anything his says regarding the red and black, because he’s clearly running interference.
But I bet our players are listening. Sweet, Hodgey says we’re on the right track, no need for an extra weights session, let’s go get some coke and head down to Torquay for a surf.
Rutten inherited the list when it was at rock bottom. A bunch of the senior core had just left for other clubs and many of the senior players were injured or done.
History shows that the coach who inherits the list at this stage rarely makes it. Wolves will be out for Yze at Richmond soon for the same reason
How do they compare on the intercept marks scale?
Zerk-Thatcher averaged 2.2 intercept marks per game last year and McKay averages 3.1 this year.
There is no mileage for a professional media person, which is what Hodge is, to spout stuff he knows is wrong. What I get from him is the understanding of how far back we are coming from. That takes time to correct, not just a bit of extra running in the off season. I don’t think Scott can be judged until this time next year. BTW I don’t agree with all the selections etc. but I have zero idea really of the players and their roles
Surprised you didn’t cop a ban for your post in the Heppell thread tbh
Who listens to SEN and especially that sanctimonious ignoramus What(the F)eley?
It was painful having to listen to his nasaly commentary during the track and field.
Bingo, also trying to make a name for himself in the media by playing the devil’s advocate, the problem for him now is that he stupidly backed us in weeks ago which has only damaged his credibility.
