I’d like to see if our pick 5 in the draft can play AFL
Piquant.
Langford is not a good runner.
We could have 23 Bonts and be playing only at West Coast at Marvel OR we could field a team full of 12 year olds … it doesn’t matter. Brad would have us in 11th somehow.
Sounds like a poor draft from a high end talent perspective which is a pity.
As always, there will be diamonds in the rough and perhaps they will select a surprise on the night.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up bottom 5. Even though we get a couple of good players back after the bye out draw isn’t great and based on our history we will have more injuries occur during that time.
We’re actively tanking, by force, good or bad fortune.
Essendon won’t finish this year in 11th. It will be 13-15th.
We just need to ‘enjoy’ the big losses from here and let the year conclude.
If we tank, fans will be angry. If we have a real go and win the odd game, fans will be angry. They can’t really win. I think people are naturally just angry. Period.
Im good with finishing bottom 4 thats where i expected we’ll be. However i see a few of our senior players not really performing which is worrying and a farked game plan which is more concerning
Kako - really? He’s been ok.
Clarke - Good debut.
Johnson - oh boy wowee
Reid - nice but injured
Hayes - mmm knee reco after 3 quarters
on the flipside we confirmed

Hey, that’s Essendon claiming credit for St.Kilda’s work.
We just chose to ignore their confirmation.
McKay - crap
Redman - crap
That’s the point I was making. Either way, fans will be unhappy. I don’t think their expectations align with reality.
I think you don’t appreciate that when you have 7-8 players who, frankly, aren’t ready to be playing AFL each week the ‘team’ chemistry and cohesion becomes ragged and at times falls apart. This is especially when oppo sides bring intense pressure and force quick decisions under pressure like last week. When oppo sides are not ‘on’ we will look more composed and play much better as we did after qtr time against Lions / Blues.
Players aren’t on the same page, aren’t working cohesively and they aren’t expected to in the circumstances. They’ve not played together, they’ve not trained together.
We have two players play last week who were playing WAFL two ago. One of them a ruck, forced to play defence with players he met only a week ago! You have to be realistic.
I thinks it’s unfair to be looking for cohesion and execution of game plans for any significant periods in games at present. The team is currently chaos in terms of not being settled, players playing out of position and without any real time training together to build chemistry and understanding. Reality is, this causes lapses in concentration, mistakes in positioning and the result is a chaotic looking style and a system constantly falling over. Cop it!
Be realistic about the current situation. There’s not a lot that can be done in the short term to fix it. Just enjoy games into kids and not over analyse and get churned up about everything that’s is happening on game day.
Never thought I’d read this on here. But then realized it was about the draw, not how we play.
the curse that is placed upon the hanger does a lot of the heavy lifting here, but i largely agree with the sentiment
Sounds like a lot of excuses to me.
Speaking a lot of sense today @dmaplestone

Need more then that to brighten up the mood here.
If fans are realistic they would be ok. Issue is, we hate losing and it’s painful to watch. We get frustrated, angry and irrational. Then the irrational reactions and takes come out on forums like this. What’s lost in all this is stepping back and seeing the bigger picture for what it is.
Gameday each week is the ‘noise’. The season, getting games into kids, experience each week is the bigger picture to takeout of the week to week. The rest atm is noise to me.
