Brad Scott - yeah, whatever (Part 4)

I refuse to use the ignore function on an Internet forum. So I have decided to call him an idiot every time he repeats the same line about hird coming back

Oh no, all the blitz cucumbering has corrupted bradgpt

Yeah look, obviously it’s disappointing to come away with the loss today. We came in with a plan, executed parts of it well, but there were key moments where we just didn’t hold up — bit like a cucumber left out in the sun. Starts crisp, ends soft. And that’s not the brand of footy we want to be playing.

The club won’t rebuild with Hird in charge. So, no to Hird.

Can’t see a world where Hirdy coaches, but reckon he would’ve been better than the bloke “forced” out of coaching retirement.

Carlton and Hawthorn icons given the job of choosing the best candidate… fark me. Trusting people who have a pathological bias, hate for the EFC makes zero sense. Lewis in particular would like nothing more than Essendon wallowing in mediocrity for decades to come.

At interview, Scott no doubt portrayed an image of surety with clear understanding of trends in the game etc. and his record at North was reasonable BUT, why on earth decide on a bloke who’d given the the coaching game away and needed to be convinced in taking the job?

The passion and drive from Hird would’ve been next level. He has an astute understanding of the game and the respect of players (GWS players couldn’t speak more highly of him).

We’ll never know…

Of course, and I believe that everybody involved in the football program is working hard. It’s just that constant bad decisions undermine that hard work, ie appointing the wrong people to important positions, and then those people making frequent poor decisions (like Brad Scott has done).

The list isn’t good enough at this stage to make top four, obviously, but there’s enough talent there to make sure results like Saturday night never happen. And it’s the second hammering this year, on top of numerous similar instances in 2023 and '24. He’s not getting the best out of the list, it’s so obvious, on a collective or individual level. Scott is just another example of the wrong person being put into an important position, and the players will never reach their full potential while these kind of missteps keep happening.

Scott sucks as a coach, but the administration probably has even more to answer for.

How many coaches in the history of VFL/AFL footy have gone 10 years without at least getting to a GF and then been given a second opportunity?

The only thing worse than before I had Nino on ignore and 3/4 of this forum was Nino posts is after I ignored him watching half the forum argue with him about the same 3 things in every thread.

Seriously how hard is it to realise he’s not changing his mind. People need to stop getting sucked in.

Reminds me of homer arguing with that talking bird on The Simpsons

Oh it got a rebuild of sorts last time

in relation to scott and his coaching part of your post, of concern is the fact he has made it a club wide emphasis to live the afl lifestyle, which seems to center around fitness, yet you continually see good clubs who’s players are fitter and stronger and bigger.

They’ve supposedly improved the focus on that area, and the dogs, after a trip to the top end, came back and ran rings around them.

Whether the talent is there or not, they do not work hard enough in the 2 hours it matters most.
if you’re not as talented as the opposition, you better work extra hard to make up for it.

that combined with either no plan or a very ■■■■ plan, and they look aweful and disjointed out there.

The top teams defenders generally always stay back, and attack from the back, not run forward of the play trying to get a kick.

I agree though, the administration has a lot to answer for. They picked a guy who emphasises all the key issues that have been a major problem for the last 20 years, that can’t just be a coincidence, that they went out and head hunted the exact type of coach that would entrench the status quo of the core issues the club has had.
