Don’t agree that professionalism owes/earns him a game. There are more factors to determine whom is the right player for team selection, surely.
On the other hand, Essendon isn’t in finals contention; it’d be a dog move not to give him what might potentially be his last opportunity to play at the G.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
For me personally, I don’t have faith in Brads team selection every week and it’s been consistent since he’s been here. I could easily fob off the notion that a youngster isn’t getting a crack tonight because he’s giving the chance to Shiel, but the reality is, he has a pattern of not developing certain players every season he’s been here. He’s ignorant and stubborn and it’s the same issues Norf had with him.
I really hope Brad has captured some ‘learnings’ about playing these young kids this year. These young kids bring the irrational exuberance back into the team, which I reckon upgrades the team from Essington into Essendon.
Next year, if Brad slips back into old habits and selects players who are not performing each week; he needs to go. I do not want the Essington to reappear next year or ever for that matter.
Also, for the record, Draper adds irrational exuberance + into the team. These are the players we need. Footscray has develops chaos football, Draper brings this type of play to the team.
Clubs ■■■■■■. We’re irrelevant and will continue to be so for at least another decade or two. Brad’s ■■■■, the Boards ■■■■, 90% of the players are ■■■■, members are ■■■■ for continuing to pay up, supporters are ■■■■ for gulping all this down for 20+ years, the league and the direction of the game is turning to ■■■■ just generally.
Brad, Brad, Brad. The pressers are so vanilla and bland. Is this how he comes across to the players as well? He talks about using these last two games to improve and get experience, then plays down the idea this could be used to go into next year with some form and positivity. I get that there’ll be players gone and new ones coming in, and that may or may not have any effect but NEVER miss an opportunity to promote the youth and give the fans some hope.
Brad’s never been one to pump up the club and the team from Day 1, and this has shown in most of our performances this year.
Its a kinda good point in a way its correct - If the club is bold enough to be the first and experiment it is now….why not split up the sr.coach role into 2 roles
Sr. Coach - Manager / Sr. Coach Strategy - or something like that….where Brad handles all the commercial / People / media side of things (still involved in coaching at a high level) and the other Sr coach (Eg: Ken H or Horse or someone like that) can pick up the main coaching role.
dunno - just floating something to ponder folks whats the worst that can happen that hasn’t already happened
The “manager” / “game day coach” set up sounds like what we went for under Worsfold with Neald and then Rutten. However, it seemed like this just led to confusion and different messaging
Hey Brad, let’s change it up. How about actually coaching the team. Why don’t you have the balls to go down on to the boundary line during the game and talk to the players instead of sitting on your throne shaking your head at every crap decision the players or umpires make. Coach, you effing pelican.
