Brad Scott - yeah, whatever (Part 4)

Personally I agree with that statement, but do we really want to be like Carlton who sack coaches after 4 years or less if they dont show success?

How long was Dimma at the helm before they got finals at Richmond?

Mitchell for as much as I hate him as a person, has cleared house at Hawks and got them into finals early. Great tactician.

Kingsley is in the same mould. Would kill for him.

Hardwick finished 5th in year four

Went 6 wins, 8 wins, 10 wins, 15 wins.

This is the year Scott gets the axe, I’m convinced. Wouldn’t surprise me if a part of Merrett being held is preservation for Scott and trying to win a few more games.

Yes Dimma was there a long time but it was clear which way that club was going. Unfortunately it’s equally clear which way our club is going.

Didn’t Dimma nearly get the sack? Or am I confusing him with Bomba?

Just land the combo of BDB and Kenny. Prelim losses for days.

I do want Ken at the club in some capacity though

Both did. They both clearly knew what they were doing, but both of them had one very bad year and had to fight to hold on. Luckily they had club presidents who supported them and both fully repaid the debt. I think they same happened with Clarkson at Hawthorn too.

Whatever for? He’s been around for years and never won a damn thing. We don’t want tried and failed old blood. We want fresh, exciting and new.

We all know next season will go completely belly up culminating in unrelenting pressure o him and his position, the club will move him on.

I dont think anyone can argue against above unless we had an extraordinary turn around (ie perennially injured players not injured, players like Perkins coming good). Not happening.

I get why the hypothetical situations around here are always negative but it doesn’t make it any less tiring.

We could see improvement based on Clarke, Johnson and Caddy making a similar leap to what Roberts did between 2024 and 2025. I don’t think that’s unrealistic. I don’t think that’s far fetched. The team would have a far better future if we get another 3-4 youngster at that level.

Thats not really true though. Plenty of Tiger fans wanted him gone. My best mate is a mad Tiger and 99% of their fans wanted him gone especially after 2016. They made finals 3 years running and lost the elimination final each time. Then 2016 was horrendous for them, history is kind to Dimma now but prior to 2017 he wasn’t popular.

You’re not saying anything different from me. I said he had a very bad year. That was 2016. Lots wanted him gone, that’s true, but lots of others didn’t. The Club President and General Manager held faith and he delivered them 3 in 4 years.

Picking up Dustin Martin helps a lot.

Maybe but I think the heat on the Tiges pre 2017 was really immense and that is glossed over these days by people that say ā€œYou could see progress.ā€ I can tell you most Richmond supporters and the media didn’t see it that way. I’m not suggesting if we give Brad time he will win us 3 flags or anything like that, I just don’t get this rhetoric going around that Dimma was going well prior to 2017.

Our strength is unpredictable footy. Not even we know where the ball will end up.

My memory is there was fairly positive views on them prior to 2016

Then they had that one shithouse year

You and everyone else has the right to your opinion, but it does my head in that people put ā€œ13 straight lossesā€ on the coach with the injuries that we had. Not a single media person (who are not likely to miss an ā€œEssendon in crisisā€ story) viewed last this season that way. When we played (pretty well) against Geelong the second time, Jack Henry went off injured, we got going, and the commentary was that their defence was unbalanced and weakened. Our defence featured 1 player first choice player. I also seem to recall Scott berating the players about AFL lifestyles and demanding they come back from the hols fit and firing at the end of 23. This forum is full of negative views on most of the players, the previous recruiting, player entitlement post saga etc. Yet it’s all about Brad. He may not be his brother or Fagan or McCrae..but he hasn’t exactly had the cards to play. this past season was a write off for evaluating the team or the coach.

Except for the trash we served up when we were near full strength at the start of the season of course.

His job is safe until the end of the season but he’ll be gone if it’s another bottom 4 finish.

The club simply can’t stomach that hence their decisions around list management to try and keep them mid table

If next season he’s got us playing predictably again, going backwards and sideways as priorities, uncontested, he’s in a world of hurt.

Hardwick calling us out for kicking forwards for a change was a real whack.

Scott will see out his contract. Nothing in footy is more certain.
