Toilet paper for napkins is always a winner
Yep
Potato and fried onions!
Whilst I completely agree with you here, unfortunately there is a reason unions have this poor reputation, even if it’s exaggerated. After having some experience of late in this regard (I am a union member btw), there are a lot of people in unions who only have self interest at heart, and will even be ■■■■■■ to their own members. I am a strong supporter of unions, but unfortunately their past penchant for associating with thugs and/or criminals allows Liberal pollies to jump on and completely blow everything out of proportion. It allows them to tell us how “unecessary” they are. Unions are their own worst enemy in this regard, but as I’ve said before we need them, so I support them.
Bit of an urban myth about thugs and criminals. No more in Unions than in the Liberal Party
hmm not always a myth unfortunately. Perhaps less so these days, but once upon a time no.
Always overstated. One “Union” was the den of criminals but it disappeared as the wharves modernised and Trades Hall took control.
My point really is that criminals exist in all communities and organisations, and Trade Unions have no more or no less than most other groups. There are some very dodgy people and practices in the building industry, fitness industry and aged care; most are owners or upper management.
Which union was that, Foxy ? Not the WWF (my old union), though it was run by some pretty tough, hard left types. Unity tickets were a good idea, which the “Liberal” fascists really hated: of course we had a bit of a problem with the Groupers back in the day. Nah, you must mean the P&D. They had some highly skilled bootmakers in their ranks. Concrete boots that is. Of course both those unions are long gone nowadays.
Not the only ones who went to the Bottom of the Harbour. The Painters and Dockers Royal Commission sunk a few tax dodgers.
Yep Perce, the Painters & Dockers were indeed colourful !!
I had Uncles in the WWF and they always said to stay away from the P&D.
Is this the guy who founded America?
Massive backlash against George Colambaris with diners staying away in droves
Unfortunately his employees and soon to be ex employees will just be collateral damage.
The name of the game now is destroy Calombaris.
His workers will always be able to pick up a job somewhere else I guess. George Inc will end up as steaming pile of debt .
His PR team is working overtime. Now he’s blaming the lack of “oversight” and “back office processes” in the set up of his restaurants. To me he’s saying, “it’s not my fault I didn’t set up my business properly as I greedily opened one restaurant after another to cash in on my master chef fame. No wonder my business didn’t pay my staff the money they were owed, i’m a victim here”.
I distinctly remember an article he was featured in a number of years ago lamenting how penalty rates were hurting his industry and how the government should do more for “small business” like his.
Calombaris knew exactly what his restaurants were doing. He has a history of being a ■■■■.

Q: What do George Calombaris & Melbourne Victory have in common? A: They both hate penalties.

also, George:
I hate bandwagon campaigns.
George is a dill, he probably didn’t know the extent of how things were but its name at the top so he is responsible.
Talking about all the hospitality employees getting ripped from their big bad employers, how about the decent proportion of café/restaurant workers who demand to be paid ‘cash’ so they can receive full centrelink entitlements? Any thoughts of those and how they screw the economy, café/restaurant industry and workplace they belong to?
Only one thought.
Strawman.
If they’re getting cash it’s because the employer sees a benefit.
Sure, when the punishment is somewhat close to equal for the two acts, than it may be considered.
Workers who do that face criminal prosecution. No one in this whole Colombaris thing is facing prison.
Actually Aussies boycotting Calambaris restaurants reflects their stupidity and wanting to please others. Blind Freddy know about the issues im the hospitality industry. Lets jump on another bandwagon.
pick up another job somewhere else and probably have the exact same thing happen to them again as there won’t be the spotlight on their new employer.
or the opposite and they will struggle to find work, as they will probably know their rights better than other employees so the bosses wouldn’t want an educated staff knowing they are getting ripped off.
