Cars for the people

It’s not ugly in the flesh. Nice lines

Doesn’t photograph well.

it’s basically a z4 bmw isn’t it?

Basically you are correct. Developed in conjunction with BMW. Using a common chassis Toyota built the coupe, BMW built the roadster.

I find most bmws butt ugly. But the Z4 is pretty nice

BM’s have generally looked terrible since the mid-2000’s .

Give Toyota their dues, at least they made manual an option on the Supra, unlike the Z4 in Australia.

With the Z4 they almost delete the stupid kidney grille. And it’s pretty sleek

I blame the head designer in that era, Chris Bangle, or as l prefer to call him Chris Bungle. Scientists are still looking for an angle on his 7 series design that wasn’t ugly, last word was, they haven’t succeeded as yet.

The old 507 wasn’t bad

That’s going a fair way back,

Modern bmw I’m talking about

I like the look of the second series Z4 the best.

My 2016 BMW twin turbo would flog ya. Leather seats are so slipperey I can barely hang on.

Any Mechanics in here?

we have just been quoted $8500 by Mazda to fix the head gasket for our CX5 Deisel. Does that seems excessive? It’s a 2013 model but only done 140,000km

Go to your local mechanic. That seems high

Ideally find a Mazda specialist who is not Mazda itself. You want someone who knows the ins and outs of your car, without the dealership tax.

That cannot possibly be a quote for just the head gasket replacement. I’d ask for a list of what is actually included. Did the engine cook and warp the block, crack the head , are they skimming the block, did it destroy the chains to the oil pump , dumped oil into the turbo ? etc etc. There must be a lot of ancillary damage.

( Not a qualified mechanic, but one recommendation - get rid of any Mazda diesel asap. Unfortunately. You couldn’t find a manufacturer with a larger difference between the quality of their diesel and petrol engines).

For that much money you could just about replace the entire car with the same model and year.

Does seem high but they are a good car that unfortunately has an engine that is known to be a lemon.

It won’t just be a head gasket unfortunately, it will need a full head recon which can run into thousands dependant on valve guides, valves, cam shaft wear etc.

I’d be a after a couple of second opinions and quotes but no way am I spending over $3-4k on what is a very poor engine
