Cars for the people

Are you sure, I reckon Toyota are doing the platform and Mazda the engine, which is weird cause I reckon Toyota do good engines

From your article -

“Production of the two models is expected to be carried out at Mazda’s Hiroshima plant, which will receive significant upgrades and production capacity expansion thanks to Toyota’s investment.

According to Best Car, the platform to be used is a revised version of the current ND-spec MX-5, in particular its lightweight 990S version, which tips the scales at just 990 kgs (for the whole car). What also impressed Toyota is the fact that the 990S handles exceptionally well, perfect for fans of the GR86. But even though the two new models will use the “same” platform, word coming out of Toyota HQ says that the platform of the next-gen 2-seater MX-5 platform will be stretched slightly to accommodate the 4-seater 2+2 GR86.”

and

“Now, while the two cars will employ a co-developed, almost identical platform, they will be powered by different engines. Toyota will use a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter hybrid naturally aspirated unit, pumping out upwards of 200hp—while Mazda will reportedly employ a revised version of its current 2.0-liter, which according to Best Car may be hybridized and should develop around 200hp as well.”

Elsewhere, I read that the Mazda will actually be a 2.5L

Do we get the 990s version of the mx5 in Oz?

Mazda have been raving about their new Skyactiv engine.

as a car company they probably need the partnership. Unlike Honda who are doing similar things but have a strong US presence and motorbikes which probably under pin their business.

I’d love to see a successor to the s2000

There’s a new RAV4 model due to arrive here next year including a plug in hybrid, but the 4x4 version is likely to be very expensive. The Sealion 6 PHEV will be about $15K cheaper.

For apparent lack of a better thread to post in: updated Service Victoria app shows petrol prices. Branded as “Servo Saver”, API available for others to use the data.

You can nominate your preferred fuel type, and get mapping links.

Had this here in Sydney for years!

We call it fuel check and it looks identical. Looks like the same business got that contract.

It’s good, I use it regularly.

Hope they merge so on a road trip between states multiple apps aren’t required!

Do they still change on a daily basis in Melbourne, with a cheap day being Tuesday or whatever?

In the bigger regional towns, they seem to stay constant for weeks, or even months, at a time. Not that it concerns me!

I have a loan car at the moment, a Kia eNiro, after a mishap with the electrical system as couple of weeks ago (should be back tomorrow on warranty). The eNiro has a map on the main dash, shoeing the nearest charger being 170 odd kms away in Ballarat, somehow ignoring the Evie charger about 1.4km away. Needs an update.

PlugShare is the equivalent for electric cars and is worldwide, needing user input for unlisted chargers which become listed.

I can see Wagga Wagga it’s 155 cents a litre for e10.

It’s nuts how hard fuel fluctuates now in the city

I put my car in for a service this morning. On the walk back to the station to go home, l saw this. In the back lots of Kippa Ring, l never expected to see one of these, even without a flux capacitor, also no sign of Marty or Doc.

That’s probably where you do see them tbh.

Isn’t it a Maserati instead of a DeLorean?

On my return l did look a bit closer and yes, it could be an old Bora or Gibhli instead of a De Lorean, l couldn’t get any closer.

Maserati Bora, equally impressive looking car.

You’d think the 72 BORA licence plate gives it away

Didn’t look that closely.
Edit: Loaded and posted directly from my phone, so couldn’t see that detail. I did enlarge the image for the photo.

Also where your most likely to see one @Captain_Jack

Bell st/Sussex st $2.08

Work that out

Ford Ranger shows the pride of diesel on map as you are driving past a servo. Is this common in other cars?

Assuming you are not talking about an unrelated Ford feature…

The app shows the prices for your choice from 11 fuel options (orange button bottom left).

Yes, unrelated to the app you are talking about. I organise a lot of vehicles for our business but have only noticed this on the Ford Ranger, not even the Everest. Just curious if other cars have it.

Haven’t used the app you are talking about but seems good. Just know that the place in coburg North has 98 cheaper than most places have 95.
