Celebrity (and not so) Deaths 2024/25

WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are warned that this story includes images of an Indigenous person who has died.

Australia has lost one of its most celebrated Indigenous leaders, Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue AC CBE DSG.

The Yankunytjatjara woman and former Australian of the Year who fought endlessly for the rights of her people has died aged 91 surrounded by family.

The ABC has been given permission to name Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue and show her image.

Her family announced her death in a statement, saying she died peacefully on Kaurna Country in Adelaide.

“Our Aunty and Nana was the Matriarch of our family, whom we have loved and looked up to our entire lives,” the statement read.

"We adored and admired her when we were young and have grown up full of never-ending pride as she became one of the most respected and influential Aboriginal leaders this country has ever known.

The cuntry music piece of ■■■■ Toby Keith, responsible in no small part to the genre’s descent in to jingoistic, nationalist, redneck trash and supporter of imperialist expeditionary murder, has died.

I bet his dog comes back now.

Was he the guy that South Park took the ■■■■ out of with their song in Team America?
I didn’t recognise the name, but what you’ve said there reminds me of it.

It wouldn’t surprise me if that was the case.

Except the South Park song was better than any of his trash.

Not sure if we’re thinking of the same thing but their pisstake of Alan Jackson was great.

‘Alan Jackson is, of course, the man who wrote the song, “Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning,” about the tragedies on September 11. And now he’s here once again to capitalize on people’s emotions.’

Choked on his freedom fries

and even worse he helped launch the career of one Taylor Swift

Taylor is ok. She isn’t a reactionary, dog whistling jingoistic redneck flog.
Like a fair portion of US country artists

I enjoyed Escape to the Country (still do).
Very sad to lose Jonnie Irwin aged 50 - way too young. He was diagnosed with lung cancer that spread to his brain. Leaves behind a wife and 3 children.

Concur.
Feel like hating on Tay-tay is…to steal from the younger Gen…kind of a red flag.

She’s no worse than Ed, and nobody cared when he was the biggest artist in the world, as weird as that was.

And…she’s honestly actually better. Musically.
I don’t see Ed putting out August.

I’m not in a rush to listen to either, but I’d listen to Taylor over Ed every day of the year.

As aloof as she can seem, at least her work feels like it has something of her in it… some sort of feeling. Sheeran’s stuff is as vapid, soulless and empty as it gets.

Her main issue is her overuse of supposed d&m metaphors which actually mean nothing at all, and a tendency to cramasmanywordsaspossibleintoherlyrics.

Both of them are ■■■■■■■ ■■■■. Boring, uninteresting, uninspired noise.
