Never saw him play, but if good judges like Digs think he was a gun then I have no doubt that’s right. Big loss
Delivering a pizza doesn’t count
My old man always thought they changed the ruck rules to cater for Polly. You weren’t allowed to jump on an opponent’s back in the ruck before then.
I grew up in a family of Cats supporters, seeing Polly pics in my grandpa’s den, hearing stories of how amazing a player he was. He used to visit their place often when my dad was young, such was Grandpa’s connection to the club.
Imagine the uproar if say if D Reynolds or J Hird played for Essendon then went interstate to play in a superior competition for a while then joined Carlton upon return? Reckon you could forgive them? P Farmer went from East Perth to Geelong then joined West Perth, East Perth’s mortal enemy upon return to the WAFL and, listen to this, helped West Perth defeat East Perth in the 1969 GF.
Even after that, East Perth people still love P Farmer. That speaks volumes.
He even has a freeway named after him.
He has a whole occupation named after him.
And rhyming slang…if afflicted with haemorrhoids, you’ve got the Farmers…as in Farmer Giles.
Polly Farmer (and Billy Goggin) is the reason why my Dad supports the Cats. You only have to look at the archival footage to see what a player he was. Very much ahead of his time in an age where ruckmen just won taps and did little around the ground. He was a true follower, his handball was revolutionary, again at a time when footy was largely just a mark and kick game. A true great of the game, RIP Polly.
He suffered with Alzheimer’s for around 24 they’re saying. That’s no way to live a significant part of a glorious life. I really hope we get on top of this.
Just heard this on the news.
And only just re watched the last half of Easy Rider on SBS the other night.
Touch weird.
Maybe his absence will make the heart grow Fonda. Jane still seems to be making the odd movie, often in France. I saw one called If We All Lived Together (Et si on vivait tous ensemble?), about a group of old frog codgers moving into the same house with Daniel Bruhl being the young guy helping them out. Very cosmopolitan with Bruhl being a Barcelona-born German. Jane sounded French, in the same way as Kristin Scott-Thomas and Charlotte Rampling.
Jane is in a really popular Netflix series as well - with Lily Tomlin.
RIP Peter Fonda. While he always lived in the shadow of his more illustrious father and sister, Easy Rider surpassed anything either of them ever put on film. Still, the greatest road movie of all time.
Please watch that Bieber film tonight.
Thanks.

About 30 years too late, unfortunately. Long may he stay dead.
