Dingus, you are an enigma
Wrapped in a riddle.
Mind you, I had a copy of this given to me by my Grandma
The best submarine movie ever made. Peterson faced quite a lot of backlash in Germany when the movie was made, as it didn’t portray the Germans as a gang of vicious Nazis and thugs. Three years ago l went to the nautical museum in Freo. They have a tour of a sub with an ex-submariner as a guide. He was of the opinion that Das Boat was the most authentic of any submarine movie, but l hardly needed him to tell me that.
The Never Ending Story is also a magnificent movie, entirely captivating. Forget about the sequel though, it is a pale imitation and lacks the charm of the original.
It is rare that a director gets to make two masterpieces, even more so movies that are so different from each other and pretty much anything else that has gone before them. Wolfgang Peterson managed to do just that, and a bit more besides. RIP.
I’ve always found it particularly ironic that there haven’t been more sequels to The Never Ending Story.
Because, secretly, you love that music
Why are people so unkind?
TBF, Gough regretted calling him Kerr’s cur, as when he threw a glass of water at Paul Hasluck at QT, when he respected Hasluck
I think you quoted the wrong post Big A
Sir David belongs in the celebrity death thread for being there on that day, along with Norm Gunston. The camera doesn’t lie.
I was living in a non ESL country at the time, it was a public holiday ( Armistice Day?} tuned into the BBC, I never felt so lonely in my life as no-one else that I was in contact with that day in my circle gave a damn about the coup in my country.
It’s all changed now, thanks to a cancelled submarine contract, the presser of a a former PM gets a run in the French media ( a legend in his own time as a menteur, while most of us are preoccupied with EfC Coach).
Really?
Nobody yet?
