Zakka?? You’re joking right?
Played maybe his best game for the year, and was named in the bests.

Doesnt do enough for me, been around 7/8 years and still an avrage player at best. Would like to see what the younger kids could provide.
Laverde in the moon boot?
That’ll be some sort of effort. Anzac Medal for sure if he plays.
Imagine if he was now at North, or Bulldogs or somebody else on 900k a year or whatever was being thrown around. He’d be the biggest talking point in the AFL.
It seems like confidence with him though, and I’m not sure dropping him to the VFL is gonna help that. But then again, we can’t just keep rotating him around to find his easiest match up every week either.
Out: Watson, Kelly, Leuenberger, Brown, Green, McKenna (suspended), Stanton, Zaharakis
In: Hocking, Howlett, Bird, Smack, Francis, Sterwart, Dea, Hartley,
I think historically he’s best (and the most effective weapon for us) when he is playing the third/loose defender role. He comes into contests third man up for the intercept mark and creates heaps of drive for us going forward.
Why not play him in this role? Have Hartley and Ambrose assigned the two key forwards each week and let Hurley run free and create havoc.
What do you think? Gotta be better than what’s happening now.
I disagree that it’s been his best role historically (destroying the games best forwards while getting 25+ touches was his best footy), but it seems his best bet atm.
Yeah, I think the idea has merit. Maybe for a month or so.
Gives him some time without full KPD responsibilty & pressure to get back into the swimg of things.
Looks a shadow of himself atm.
I’ll back Hurls in to give Darcy Moore an absolute flogging next match.
He is a competitive beast, just down on form. Will find it again soon.
Team selection is about picking players in good form that are the right match for the opposition. It’s not about making a statement.
I don’t think we need to panic and I don’t think we were that bad last night. I think the umpiring was one sided and they could not miss.
For me, I’d just find a way to get Francis in the team.
Don’t agree with that at all, he is a fierce defensive competitior first and foremost. He was at his best in 14/15 when he was playing on the big forwards. He was a lot heavier then and I think his loss of condition has really hurt him.
Do you mean Watson rested? What injury?
The long break will definitely do wonders for the returning players. Virtually all of them seem to have started struggling, match fitness will hopefully return at some point.
I’m thinking it may be time for Hooker to go back, he was extremely useful up forward when our game “plan” was to bomb it high to a pack, however we actually now have better ball movement and forwards who are leading etc so the strength that Hooker was giving us fwd is basically wasted, therefore I think he would be way more useful back.
Whether we give Stewart / Francis a chance I guess is the choice. I don’t like Brown or Smack as fwds so not sure what else we can try there apart from Stew or Franga.
I didn’t mind most of what Oirish provided, hopefully he doesn’t get suspended (imo contact was only high because the crow player lowered his head after McKenna had started his bumping motion. Perhaps we could try him on the wing as he does occasionally just look lost, will only get better though as he is still pretty new to the game.
I really don’t know about Langford, I think he has something to offer but don’t see the “future beast” like some people see. Sometimes he just looks disinterested and seems to lose a lot of contests that he should be winning.
Considering some of the issues we have in the middle would it be worth starting Hurley in the square for some periods of the game? Big bustling type, at least if he tackles someone they will know about it rather than breaking 3 half tackles and then getting an inside 50.
A midfield jet?
There was a post somewhere above mine.
Anyway - comedic license and all that.
Out: M Hurley, Kelly, Stanton, Baguley
In: M Hartley, Jerrett, Bird, Gleeson.
Wouldn’t mess too much with forward set up. Albeit Hooker’s not marking anything, he is taking a good defender out of the way and making a good contest 9 times out of 10. Would still like to see Begley at some point soon.
Don’t know what mcKenna could do in the situation he was in. Levitate, teleport or do exactly what he did.
TBell was quite average in the magoos yesterday
There’s 3 spots. 3 others have performed better. Simple call is simple.
I think all of the returning players (bar probably Heppell as captain) might play some VFL at some point this year, to get their touch and confidence up.
Our boy Andy McGrath, throw him in the guts. 28 touches last night, was among our best.
In: Stewart, Francis, Hartley
Out: Brown, McKenna (Suspended), Kelly
Hooker to go back to free up space for stew. Hartley and ambrose to lock down the best forwards, Hurley to play on the third tall to get some confidence back into him. Francis to play as our third tall, also looked good in the guts as an inside mid yesterday in the VFL.
