Changes for ANZAC Day vs Pies

Don’t need to be too drastic yet, only 4 games into this new side no need to overreact, talk of dropping Watson and Hurley ridiculous…Dropping All Australians after one or two bad games and still finding their feet after a day off

Want to get Francis and Stewart in, maybe drop Langford I dunno he seems to be doing just enough to think we should persist with him until it clicks but we wouldn’t miss him. Maybe drop Stanton I don’t know what he offers, does Baguley hold his place? Not the first to be towelled up by Betts and he was good in the first two rounds. I also feel like Smack should be in the team he offers so much more than Leuenberger around the ground and definitely shouldn’t have been dropped for Carlton

I think getting the match ups and positioning right is more important than selection at this stage, like having Ambrose on Walker and having some real speed like Tippa in the centre square.

Players have the 10 day break, the game against Melbourne is the one to really play around with the team, one bad loss in terrible conditions and one bad loss to the premiership favourites doesn’t mean we should all lose our minds

Hardly comparing apples and apples scenario

First half was a training drill for them. Leading into space to kickers under no pressure.

Supply completely dried up for the them. We had the Crows pinned in their defensive half for practically entire 3rd quarter, and most of last.

Tex and Eddies possessions were away from goal area. And Eddie in most of last quarter was also starting off the back of the square.

That said I think Ambrose’s closer checking game would have allowed Hurley to be more attacking, hence his 15 possession 3rd quarter.

Even though he is tall and is touted as a future star, Moore has a spindly frame and is not very strong yet. Neither has he been very impressive in subsequent matches, The pundits say its because he gets too little support ( from another tall) so far Moore has been averaging 1 goal every 3 games.

Fasolo, on the other hand can be a game breaker. We need to watch out for him tbh because he is the one who can kick a bag and is 10 times as effective as Moore. Elliot is the other potent forward…

I think dea is a pretty good match up for fasolo

I’d probably pick whoever we’re happy to lose for a month for punching Fasolo right in his smug face.

This.
Line in the sand game.
Pick the biggest thugs we have and belt the living suitcases out of them.
God I wish we had a Lewis/Hodge/Ziebell in our side

The percentage input of the returning players so far this season: Colyer 85%, Heppell 70%, Stanton 45%, Hurley 30%, Hooker 25%, Watson 20%, Howlett 15%, Hocking 10%. Myers and Bellchambers - Unknown at this stage.

Hartley and Dea held up a 2016 backline under huge stress. In 2017 neither has had a game. Why? Are the top up players, except for Kelly, forced out in sympathy for the returning players? Is the view that the Essendon players so poorly treated by the supplement scandal, be given priority irrespective of their current form? Essendon supporters do sympathize with the way they were treated, but on last night’s performance, sympathy goes only a short distance in such a competitive environment of the AFL. The Essendon family wants the team to win, to have success, but for many of those listed above that wasn’t very apparent. Six day break, terrible conditions last week, lack of full on AFL game day experience can all be excuses for some of the time, but not all of the time.

Woosha will have to start making choices as to who plays, who deserves to play. We don’t want another three-win season like 2016. Our expectations are for a rise up the ladder with something like 8 to 10 wins for 2017. Top eight I think would be out of the question unless there is a real turn around in form.
My Anzac Day team, despite what I have written above would be:

B McGrath Hurley Ambrose
HB Kelly Hooker Dea
C Colyer Watson Goddard
CHF Zaharakis Francis Parish
F Tippa Daniher Fantasia
R Leuenberger Heppell Z. Merrett
INT Langford, Hartley, Bird, Myers (or Stanton)

In: Dea, Francis, Bird, Myers, Hartley

Out: Brown Bagley, Green, McKenna (suspended?), Stanton

Interesting, and seems to match observations. Where did you get these stats from?

The thing that encourages me this Anzac Day is that Collingwood are probably a pretty similar side in terms of ability to us

Ordinary forward line and defence but their midfield will absolutely destroy us

Get Francis in. There are a couple of others who are also big chances, but he is the one who is most likely and most required. No better time for him to come in and make a big statement. l expect many more changes the week after against Melbourne, since there is such a short time between games.

Weather Forecast predicting showers for Anzac day…

Stage is set for Jarryd Blair to kick a sealing goal from the goalsquare.

He’s also played one game since mid 2015 and has barely touched it today. I don’t think ambrose has the agility to go with Elliot who would be too nimble for him. that would be my concern. He’s much more suited to white or Moore imo. I’d put my house on he goes to one of them

Right out of my head, especially after looking at our 4 games this year. It would seem your views are similar to mine.

No he wasn’t, I think Colyer was.

Is there any chance luenberger is dropped?

Looking at his countless fresh air shots, I’d say yes. Probably on his head as a baby.

Thanks,
Is it full Blitz now everyone should be dropped?
Only Collingwood after all - how will FIGJAM handle the pressure of such a radical selection policy?
