Changes for round 2 Crows

Play Prior again. He was horrendous but give him a chance to show that he can actually play a role.

Got to give him another go

McKay will NEVER dropped.

An outrageously huge money, long term contract guarantees that.

Don’t agree but I’m not the one picking them

I’m really on the fence about giving prior another game

He was absolute gash on Friday, and also gave one of the softest ā€œcontestsā€ I have seen by an Essendon player for some time.

But do you give him a chance to redeem himself after giving him an earful or do you send a message to the whole group that it won’t be tolerated and drop him

The more I think about this, Jones has to play forward and maybe it is better to bring in El Hawli instead of Edwards.

Both ways it’s new blood, but I just can’t see a forward line headed by Caddy, Edwards, Kako kicking a score. Need some experience there.

Maybe could also try Durham forward. He can take a serious overhead mark.

Jones definitely will not make the difference between kicking a winning score or not.

I think it’d probably need to be a combo, with SEH coming in on a wing to allow Jones & Martin to spend more time fwd in Langford’s role. Assuming they don’t just bring in Edwards ofc.

Surely Gresham replaces Hobbs up fwd in the starting side.

HF: Perkins Jones Martin
F: Kako Caddy Gresham

is pretty mobile, with Draper rotating through so we always have 2-3 key targets.

So…good chance of 2 debutants this week, and outside chance of 3.

This would really make sense if Robert Shirley was still playing for Adelaide.

We have to pick Edwards few other forward options and despite Jones probably better placed on a wing I think he needs to start forward also. Durham to run with Dawson, & I’d bring in Hayes for Ridley + more I think about it Menzie as a small forward option. So;-

OUT: Langers, Ridley, Prior
IN: Edwards, Hayes, Menzie

Team;-

Reid McKay McGrath
Redman Hayes Shiel
Martin Merrett Duursma
Perkins Jones Gresham
Edwards Caddy Kako

Draper Durham Caldwell

Bench: Tsatas Hobbs Roberts Bryan
SUB: Menzie

What I think will happen is different to what I want to happen, but……

If Setterfield is fit he might come in, Jones goes fwd. Gresham plays in the 22 with Menzie to sub. Redman back to ft defender.

This wouldn’t surprise me at all.

So, Redman to tag Dawson in the centre?

I really don’t see it with him. Hobbs cannot be in that forward line with Perkins for a full game, he’s not a good enough forward, and he isn’t getting bulk midfield time which is about his only real trick. Without injuries to another key midfielder, he shouldn’t be playing a full game in my opinion. May be harsh, but Gresham was the right player to be in that role v Hawks and should be until another player with forward craft and pressure forces their way into the team.

He can be sub, or VFL. Pick one.

Brads opportunity to follow the rebuild scrip flagged by management

Edwards in for Langford injured
SEH for Prior - Dropped
Hayes for Ridley - injured

We’re going to do something mental and win this

Hayes isn’t up to it. Not now and maybe not ever.

SEH is a decent addition

Can Saad play small defender on a Ginnivan type? Or is he more a wing/half forward?

What other small defender options do we have to replace Prior?

Like this forward setup.

Just have to look at the Hawthorn forwardine for proof that agility and ground ball capabilities are vital.

If you have a forward that isn’t completely dominant in the air and cannot contribute at ground level then they’re a liability.

Were unlikely to come up against 3 talented small forwards like Hawks for a while

but thinking of crows forward 6.
we probably do need Hayes in

Fogarty (192cm) - Redman (187cm) / Hayes (199cm) if selected
Walker (192cm) - McKay (198cm)
Neal-Bullen (182cm) - Prior (188cm)
Rankine (179cm) - McGrath (178cm)
Thilthorpe (201cm) - Reid (205cm)
Rachele (180cm) - Shiel (180cm)

I probably rather El-Hawli (184cm) on Rachelle TBH
