I thought I read somewhere in the week that Truck was dropping the zones and letting the boys play their more natural game. Whatever, it worked.
So outs… zone, ins… more of last night.
Agree. In a match where we had a number of top up come in at short notice, he once more was largely ineffectual. He is still way too timid and avoids physical contact, put another way he is soft. This was shown by his lack of attack on the ball and standing back when he should have laid a tackle. That is apart from one attempt to tackle that was brushed off with ease. We can’t hide him anywhere on the field, and we can’t afford to keep playing him.
They were essentially forced into a very different mix, and that mix looked better.
Ridley in, yes. Less cut and dried after that. Durham’s energy fits with how we played last night. Kelly has been solid defensively, but slows ball movement. Guelfi moves well, good effort levels, but is limited. Waterman kicks goals, but the issue is every moment when he is not taking a set shot, particularly defensively.
Majority of our season starts we’ve focused too much on our structure and plan and not realised that after a preseason it doesn’t require as much thought and should be second nature by the time round 1 comes. Our one wood is taking the game on aggressively and bring speed.
It was funny that we were able to defend just as well from half the team celebrating Redmans goal and out of position than we have all year.
Don’t know who comes out, but Waterman must and will come back in. He kicks too many goals to be left out. He is an accurate kick from anywhere in the F50, and we need his scoring power. Otherwise the opposition know if they shut down 2MP, then we have no other reliable avenue to kick a winning score.
Does that mean we had no reliable avenues last night.
To the contrary, Baldwin , Wright and Francis worked well and created multiple Credible targets.
Waterman can and has gone quiet in the past , he is going well, but it s hard to ignore what we saw last night.
We’ve got that winning feeling … do we want to risk walking back from it.
