They are very different if you look at pinned arms.
Bit strange they are holding him over when we play in 8 days unless we are worried he will get injured.
Thereās nothing to gain from Hayes playing VFL when he will absolutely be needed over the next month of footy in the big time
Itās not like he needs to prove himself any further. If we were a serious club he already would have debuted in place of McKay on form alone.
Excited to get another debut and see what the young kid can do. I like him.
For his own development?
A donāt think a VFL game is going to make a difference when there is an AFL debut to be had next week.
In - Caldwell, Shiel, Hayes
Out - Gresham, Jones, Ridley
I would play Shiel in that Gresham role at half forward and pushing up into the stoppage.
Menzie sub again
I actually think team balance might work better with the changes. We have absolutely been too tall with Jones in the team - not quite a forward, not quite a winger. Decision been forced upon us now and letās see if it improves our movement.
Changes I would make:
- Vigo in for Jones - spell Goldy every 7/8 minutes until 3QT and then be subbed
- Caldwell in for Setterfield (like for like)
- Shiel in for Gresham (play high HF, pushing up to stoppages)
- Hayes in for Ridley
That would make two debutants and Scott probably wonāt do it. But Goldy looked totally stuffed before 3QT but somehow staggered on for the rest of the game. And we badly needed Wright up forward, roaming up the ground.
If someone like Bevo was coaching us, i could see him making those changes. He is prepared to take calcultaed risks. Scott rarely does.
If we play Goldy every week I think the chances are he will break down. I would prefer he gets some games off so he can last the year. He was bullied by X and must be physically done. We have the Swans then the dogs, so I would prefer him rested next week then back against English.
Vigo in the VFL today 45 hotouts and a goal.
Gerryne 3 goals
In- Vigo and Gerryne
Out - Goldy (rested) and Jones - Langford plays his wing minutes
Out - Rids
In- Hayes
Makes us a bit tall so I would like a further change to the backline
Out- Prior (VFL is his level)
In- would love Clarke or Johnson- but would be happy for Sheil to see now that he has shown some form, can he reproduce what he showed in preseason off half back
Gresh if he isnāt injured would only keep his spot ( and that would be as sub) because all our smalls in the VFL were average to poor.
If Gresh is injured- Davey sub.
Menzie lucky as no one else to come in from the VFL.
That being said if they bring Calders straight back in then Menzie out.
Letās do something completely different.
McGrath Reid, Redman
Johnston, Hayes, Roberts
Duursma tsastas Martin
Perkins, Langford, Merrett
Kako,Wright,Caddy
Vistertini, Caldwell Durham
Gerryan,Shiel, settlefield, menzie
Sub. Day-wicks
In. Hayes,Johnson, vistetini, day-wicks, Gerryan ( all debut). Shiel, Caldwell.
Out. Jones, Ridley,Gresham,Hobbs(all injured)
McKay (managed) Goldstein (managed)
Prior (omitted).
Imagine the blow up on here if this happens
Menzie was useless
Shiel will return.
Was he left out last night because Parker now at North?
OUT: Ridley, Jones, Gresham, Menzie
IN: Hayes, Caldwell, Shiel, SEH
Time for Fletch 2.0, Reid to play the Ridley role
Could easily drop Tsatas out given Caldwell & Shiel back but let him go at it again. Tsatas might end up playing a little more outside mid rotations however.
Davey was ordinary in VFL, Shiel can return play Greshamās HFF role and has done such before with decent effect
Menzie was ineffective as sub, would rather SEH play it again and actually give us something worthwhile when required
B: McGrath McKay Reid
HB: Roberts Hayes Redman
C: Martin Durham Duursma
HF: Perkins Caddy Shiel
F: Kako Wright Langford
R: Goldstein Setterfield Merrett
B: Caldwell Tsatas Hobbs Prior
S: SEH
Bring in Trent Mynott & Kurt Aylett
OK, I havenāt been on here since flying the family down from Qld and meeting up with friends (Hawks supporters) for the round one game. I was gutted during that game and after watching and suffering many players insipid efforts, I reassessed my evaluation of our team and some of our players.
Now, nearly 2 months later, I believe having some injuries could actually not be such a bad outcome. If we play well for the rest of the year with an injury ravaged list, I think we still should remain a reasonable attractive prospect for potential and suitable targeted players.
However, especially with the compromised draft over the next 4-5 years I like the idea of hitting the draft this year (as it is meant to be pretty strong!) instead of wasting, or over spending on a Harley Reid.
Yes, he will likely be an awesome player, but his attitude doesnāt give me the same confidence as a Butters, Daicos, Rowell or Sheezel ⦠Putting the Sheil fiasco aside for the moment, these are some of the highest paid player currently - Tom Lynch, Ben McKay, Christian Petracca, Aaron Naughton, Tim Kelly, Clayton Oliver. Actually theyāre 5 of the 6 highest paid!
Theyāre certainly no where near the 6 best plyers. I would go hard on a player like Rowell, Wardlaw or even Butters maybe, but its also timing. We need the perfect mix, while we still have Merrett for a few years preferably. If we were to get 4 top-end required players from this draft and still keep our war chest, then we go into next year still with a first rounder and son of Darren Bewick the year after. Free agency combined with top end draft picks seems to be the quickest and best value formula to create a VERY good and competitive sustainable team in 2-3 years!!.
Imagine those 4 deputants playing early next season with Tstatas, Hobbs, Caddy, Reid, Kako with another pre-seaon under their belt and with our missing senior players back including Parish, Caldwell, Draper etc. (why would we even consider trading him???)
I was also wondering if perhaps Prior is a double agent? Heās certainly been no improvement on the previous below average players to play that position. It was good to see Perkins finally contribute. I understand his skillset makes us a better side, but I still believe heās been the most underperformer who been gifted the most games in our squad.
If we go down the draft road, which I hope we do, then we also have a few extra swings that we would all agree we arenāt relying on such as Cox, Hayes, Jones, Brian, Johnson, Nguywen, and Edwards (who I rate highly although without any real justification)
If a few of these were to blossom (including Perkins), then Iām really looking forward to the next couple of years. If we spend all our cash and draft capital on a single player, well I think I will be actually disappointed (unless a free agent)
We are not in contention to be giving away draft capital unless its in our favour (ie Stringer at the time)
Anyway, probably wrong forum, but thatās my take
P.s. Brandon Starcevich could be a ālike-for-likeā for Prior, if we want to waste some more cash on free agency?? ⦠surely not!
Exactly.
If we cant beat these muppets with all the injuries they have, then BDB has to go.
Its a very winnable game. All i want is the straight, direct approach we took in the 1st quarter against the Roos & the Bin Chickens go home crying.
Then we roll on to play the mutts.
Out: Ridley, Jones, Gresham, Setterfield
In: Hayes, El Hawli, Davey Jnr, Caldwell
McGrath Reid Hayes
Redman McKay Roberts
Duursma Merrett Durham
Martin Caddy Perkins
Kako Wright Langford
Goldy Caldwell Tsatas
Prior El Hawli Hobbs Menzie Sub: Davey Jnr
Surely Johnson & Hayes get a game!
Canāt keep carrying players, like: Hobbs (canāt kick), Menzie (enough said), Gresham and Jones (I know they are both injured).
If you can only Beat WCE by 2 points and Norf by 3⦠you are not playing finals.
Sydney by 47.
