Dropped into training today with my two kids who I’m trying to indoctrinate before we move back to Australia next year. They loaded up on bomber gear and settled in to watch what all the fuss was about. Some observations from the short match play.
Duursma seemed to be running freely and picked up plenty of the pill, looks good to go.
My 14 yo was keen to see Tsatas who she has adopted as her favorite player and told me to tell you all to lay off him for a while, I tend to agree. The kid needs some support. Unfortunately we couldn’t see him anywhere so hopefully he only has a minor niggle but given the backlash on various social media it would not be beyond the realms that he may need a mental break.
The guy that surprised me in match play was Menzie and I’m not a massive fan, but he was everywhere and seemed to be settling into more of a wing/ half back role. His ball use is excellent when up the field and I remember that being the case in his first game with us when he came in on as a sub onto a wing.
Setterfield also seemed to be moving well, whereas Hobbs spent time with the moonboot duo of El Hawli and Baldwin.
Draper was running about but not getting it much and Caddy took a couple of nice grabs up forward.
The disturbing thing,…set shots. They continued to miss from 30 meters out, a couple of posters and a couple that weren’t close. Gresham a culprit but it was fairly well spread acorss the group. Langford seemed to have his radar adjusted though after a couple of poor weeks.
All up a decent session with a lot of voice but god I hope they can iron out those set shots before Sunday.
Sitting next to his best mate Adam Simpson at the footy last Sunday with beer in hand at some Norf reunion who this week is up against his coaching nemesis in Brad Scott.
It’s likely Scott doesn’t think that Draper will get any material benefit playing VFL. Like Ridley he is happy for him to just come straight back into the seniors.
