More I think … the more its obvious Shiel comes in for Friday night. Zach, Duz and Calders need help. … they’ve been immense up to now. Perkins deployed as a tag it seems has been “OK”, Jake not getting it done in there recently and rather him back deeper kicking goals as much as possible…
It’ll be won in the middle and clearances against the Klan. Love Hobbsy but Shiel has been building back in the VFL. He’ll make a big difference this Friday…
In terms of changes, I think the forward line or our structures that lead to a consistently clogged forwardline when we are on top has to be addressed.
I am surprised that this is not a thread.
On Saturday night our smalls seemed to try to stand back from our talls so they had some space. Meaning there defenders had easy clearances. It looked very wrong.
Thoughts?
The young players can develop their game in the VFL team, which has been doing well of late. Many a good player have had to bide their time. They’ll get their chance.
Essendon should be going all out to secure a finals spot. A large bulk of the senior players deserve that opportunity. If it means picking a senior player (on merit!) over a young player, so be it.
Pelicans on this site banging on ad nauseam about development etc fail to acknowledge the club have been “developing” players for the last 20 years(!), and how has that been going?
The time is now, for the sake of the players, club and its supporters to play finals and do something meaningful while they’re there. JUST need to tidy up the f50 entries and conversion. C’mon Dons.
Hobbs should be in before Shiel, as he can actually half play another role when not in the middle.
But lets be honest, we all know Dylan is playing and Hobbs being emergency last week was for nothing so this discourse is a waste of time.
Hobbs wasn’t that great against the suns, Shiel been better at VFL recently.
Not sure why Hobbs didnt play VFL last week, maybe we were going to not play Goldy and play either Hobbs or Caddy would be my guess due to conditions…I would have been happier with either to be selected last week TBH over goldy.
Don’t get the hate for Goldy. Much more disciplined performer than Draper. Unlike Draper has more than one string to his bow. Seems to have a lot more football nous.
And better below the knees.
Anyone that has a history of not chasing opponents & 1 ruckman out, we have 3 atm….why
At this stage I’m looking at Goldstein who to be frank should not have played against Geelong as he just slowed us down & didn’t deliver a ruck dominance, Perkins because he isn’t delivering & Menzie cause he ain’t a backman or a forward.
So Sheil in for speed, Kelly in for defensive dependability, & Hobbs for toughness around the ball. Draper & 2MP to ruck …. Hobbs & Sheil to change up the onball dynamics & Kelly to lockdown a Magpie mid forward.
Wouldn’t mind Cox & Jones switching wing & to the goal square continually to fark with the Pies brain trusts head (& game plan)
