Changes vs Pies Anzac Day

Collingwood are missing a bit, but they’ve still got a lot.

A midfield group of J.Daicos, Pendlebury, Crisp, De Goey, and Mitchell is still a bloody powerful midfield.

Moore, Maynard, Quanor, Noble, and N.Daicos all provide a lot of drive out of defence.

Collingwood are rightly favourites for this one. They’ll still field a very strong football team.

I thought so, but it sounds as though they might be gearing up to play Kreuger in the ruck.

But I’m not sure if that’s for him to be the main ruck or more to give Frampton a chop out at times.

It’ll be interesting if Frampton and Kreuger more or less share the ruck duties to see what they do with each when they’re not rucking. Particularly Frampton. It’s not all that common to be a ruckman/key defender but they may have to go down that track.

probably wont matter that much, as they will just go down and play on Draper/Phillips.
might be a nice 1-1 for Draper. We should be able to expose them for fitness expecially with Kreuger coming back from injury.

Good point - but we have some top end quality also;0

Daicos - Redman
Pendlebury - Setterfield
Elliot - Langford
De Goey - Stringer
Sidebottom - Parish

Of those guys, most neutral people would say only Parish wins those comparisons.

Having said that, that’s obviously on paper and reputation based and/or what they’ve achieved in the game. In reality, on a given day it doesn’t always work like that.

Also, much of footy, or success in footy these days is weighted towards system rather than personnel.

Langford for the ANZAC day medal. Bank on it.

not sure about that - Setterfield in current form would break even with 35 year old Pendles now and he’s 10 years younger…Stringer & De Goey very evenly matched over their careers also - but - I am biased…!!

I have one wish more than anything for this game. That we turn up mentally, from the FIRST MINUTE against this lot to give us a genuine chance of being ‘in the game’.

I would like to highlight some of the starts we’ve had against this opposition in recent years:

Round 19 2022 - Collingwood 6.2.38 Essendon 0.1.1 (Quarter Time) - FINAL MARGIN: -4

Round 5 2022 - Collingwood 3.2.20 Essendon 1.2.8 (1st Quarter, 23 minutes) - FINAL MARGIN: -11

Round 5 2021 - Collingwood 3.0.18 Essendon 0.1.1 (1st Quarter, 6 minutes) - FINAL MARGIN: +24

Round 5 2020 - Collingwood 3.0.18 Essendon 0.0.0 (1st Quarter, 12 minutes) - FINAL MARGIN: +15

Round 6 2019 - Collingwood 7.6.48 Essendon 2.3.15 (2nd Quarter, 21 minutes) - FINAL MARGIN: -4

Round 16 2018 - Collingwood 4.1.25 Essendon 1.1.7 (1st Quarter, 27 minutes) - FINAL MARGIN: -16

NO MORE. Switch on from the start please.

You can say that again. Pendles has been tearing us apart on Anzac Day for the best part of two decades and Setterfield, who is at his third club playing his 6th game for us, has never played one.

Collingwood on Anzac day generally perform and usually its their best players

  • Swan, Shaw, Buckley, Pendelbury, Sidearse, Beams, Crisp, Adams

Pendelbury has won 3 anzac medals. Setterfield needs to not let that be 4, for Hird’s (3) sake.

Out last 4 winners show how much we have struggled
Parish (2021)
Daniher (2017, left)
Zaharakis (2013, retired)
Ryder (2009, Inidgenous Liason)

Until last week Setters had never gone 1 on 1 with Oliver either, but he did so, and played admirably. He was a large part of the reason why we won.

I remember someone saying he tagged Oliver late in 2022 for blues, last couple of games. and did well.

It was @Ivan

I’ve been damaged from too many Anzac Day games in the past to think we’ll even come close to winning this game. We’ll give up 6 goals to our 1 in the first qtr because they always turn up in the first qtr, and then we’ll spend the rest of the game trying to catch up, maybe we’ll get close and it’ll be a valiant loss or they’ll have a field day and destroy us and Kane Cornes will come out and flip flop back to saying we got ahead of ourselves. And then after a couple day break we’ll get demolished by Geelong.

Or, maybe we live in the universe where we do win.

Not to mention Mihocek and Elliot up forward.

I just checked and Hawks announced their extended team for the Easter Monday clash on Thursday. And the final team on Saturday.

So we may announce the team tonight and finalise on Sunday?

Or announce tomorrow to finalise on Sunday?
