Drop Goldy, 2mp plays Ruck thus making room for McMahon in our forward line.
What is the actual point of continuing to play a 23yo at VFL level when he has great form for 2 clubs at that level ?
It’s not like his body needs developing.
Just play him.
Who cares if we compromise the Ruck position marginally !
OUT: Caldwell, + all the other players that get injured at training between now and game day.
IN: Players who can run.
Plus, it will be great for the kids to getting an understanding of winning.
The inner circle could be bigger than the outer for the song.
St. K & Carl will be 50/50
I feel for McMahon, he is the only play on the list who plays in a position where we don’t have injuries.
Sean Murphy enters the chat
was in the car last night and heard Paul McNamee on the radio refer to his time as Ceo of the dees. he said they were a club that was trying to finish last rather than win so the place wasn’t for him.
I don’t think we should tank.
This is how I read that.
Gee, I’m sick of hearing all of this rubbish about tanking.
It’s bad enough putting up with it on here, now 1 or 2 of the media flogs are mentioning it.
You try telling 8 or so kids to go our and not try, particularly when some have their careers on the line.
Watch Caddy, Kako, May, Merrett, Durham, Caldwell, Clarke, Roberts, Johnson, Lav & even Goldy last week and tell me they were tanking.
It will be great for the kids to play in a winning side some haven’t done it.
We also want outside players we might target to see we are improving and have a bright future and positive attitude.
tanking isn’t asking the players to deliberately lose, it’s never been that. it’s just accepting that there’s no chance of winning the flag, so there’s no more use in strategising around that. new objectives for the remainder of the season are formed. and in a league where there’s an incentive for finishing low, then sometimes those incentives are included (but not built around) in the strategy.
(we’re ethically tanking though, which is where you lose games by being sht)
Totally agree; but, that is not tanking. It’s like having a good staying racehorse, it will have a few preparatory runs to get it to it’s peak later in a preparation.
It’s still trying, but, not suited to those races.
By putting out injured players and readying them for the start of pre season, or trying some players likely to be cut, or testing players in other positions to improve their skills or understanding of the game, should not be referred to as tanking.
Tanking is a negative, list & player development, player management & education are positives.
The past 2 years Scott has continued to play damaged players - remember Stringer & Draper in the last game of the year - and not played or developed young players. This year has been much better, even though injuries may have motivated this.
Imo any team can best anyone on any given Sunday. They only need the testicular fortitude to do it. When teams don’t they look like our team in the last 10 minutes of us vs gc.

do you just not like the word “tanking”?
should we call it something else?
call it whatever you want, it doesn’t change what’s happening
Yeap!!!
No, I just think tanking is a negative, borderline cheating, thing that you consciously do to benefit by taking the easy way out. It also sends a very poor message to the playing group.
Player, list, injury management, player development & education are positive processes you do to position your existing team for future success.
To suggest that we are deliberately losing (tanking), indicates that we could win if we wanted to.
I don’t think we are that good.
Friend Bruce at training notes Oscar Smartt and Elijah Tsatas training with the senior squad(black training top). Not always a given but i had heard whispers on possible Smartt debut against Tigers
Bruce hearing whispers from Smartt:

I prefer this one

I like that the first sentence mentions both Smartt and Tsatas, but the 2nd sentence omits Tsatas.
Adds legitimacy.
