Is Caldwell back next week?

He was a test for this week. I’d assume he should be available for next week.

Cox out - cause same reason as weed

Has he even played 7 straight games to not kick goals in?

Fallen over the line vs WC and whilst played better vs North again only a close win

Will need to seriously lift our game if we are to beat GWS on their home deck

We have had some good tussles with them over the years though!

Setterfield must play and will be ready to do so, had one VFL game back and they would have flogged him for match like training today given no VFL on.

Draper however I feel should hopefully do enough to play as fwd/ruck. If Bryan does have an ankle Flip to continue on and him being the more combative option suits vs Briggs anyway

If Stringer is capable of proving he is good to go probably will come in, even though I don’t think he should. Time and time again we’ve seen him come in off a layoff with no game to blow out cobwebs and been rubbish. I hope Scott says no if there is any doubts, would need to light it up at main training to come in. Seems unrealistic based on how he was last week.

If we are already playing Setterfield and Draper off a lay off it’s too risky to also have Stringer as well anyway. Would run out of gas late in game.

Not sure how serious Caldwells hip issue is but if he is right to go (they did say was only tightness) need him also as GWS are a strong contest team and I’m sure he’d fire up against his old mob anyway

We also need more of a spark up forward. I don’t care if he can’t run out the game. Play Walla, only needs very few touches to be damaging. Even if he is sub will have more impact than Snelling.

Big decision to make on Toby Greene, Kelly has done the job on him before. Shutting Greene down will go a long way towards us winning game but to do so would then be at the expense of Hind in our back 7 which I don’t want to do as he has been good for us since returning. Does Hep get ‘managed’ for this game? I would do so, but I feel like they will drop Hind. If that did happen then Hind sub for sure.

MUST WIN GAME!

OUT: Bryan (inj), Cox, Heppell (managed) Snelling (sub)

In: Draper, Setterfield

Stringer plays as the sub.

The contest early in the third when he gibbed it was disgraceful, he needs to be dropped for that incident alone. The weakest l have ever seen from any Essendon player. That was droppable, right there and then he should have been dragged from the ground for that non-effort. Norf took the ball down the ground for an easy goal, as a direct result.

The melts in here will be fun if we beat gws and pies and end up playing finals

So don’t play Stringer because he can’t run out the game but play Walla because we need a spark?

if we want to keep Kelly to play in. defence on greene then Heppell can be managed

Yes. Walla is not playing injured, and had full games in VFL midfield since the bye. And getting kudos for his pressure and tackling at that level. His touch is back ball in hand too.

Stringer is carrying / attempting to get over an injury and provides stuff all defensive pressure when he isn’t fully fit. And for balance of side 2 rucks (which might include Draper already off long layoff) + Wright + Langford + Perkins already needs more smalls around

And if not in the 22 then could be sub as we’d like take a tall off tactically

The Toby matchup seems like a concern. I’m not overly keen on seeing Kelly move back to the backline because that would mean Baldwin or Hind won’t play - feel like we need both of them.

In - Caldwell, Setterfield, Draper, Stringer
Out - Kelly, Guelfi, Bryan, Snelling

FB - Baldwin Zerk Redman
HB - McGrath Laverde Hind
C - Martin Hobbs Durham
HF - Perkins Wright Tsatas
FF - Menzie Langford Caldwell
R - Draper Parish Merrett
Int - Cox Setterfield Heppell Phillips
Sub - Stringer

They will have top spot sewn up.

Moore, daicos out.

Could even be some rested.

Then there’s the psychology of the players that are playing - they’ve just seen the above players hurt themselves, is that not going to play on their mind or are they going to crack in 100% in a dead rubber for them?
