Climate Change in Australia (Part 2)

Australia leads the way.

Something for all those Rsoles like Howard and Abbott to be proud about.

Reckon we might question the accuracy of that map and what it actually means. Not sure there has been bushfires in many of those regions on the map.

The double whammy.

Almost 30 in Sydney yesterday with some extremely windy conditions (up to 90 kmh gusts) when it is still technically winter. It’s quite something to see how fast our climate is changing in real time.

Sydney airport recorded a temperature of 31.6 yesterday. 30.1 in the city. That’s just stupid for this time of year. I can’t get as excited as some people I spoke with yesterday, because you’d have to be an idiot to think that this is a good thing.

And its 12 degrees in Southern Victoria today ….

Is that particularly unusual?

I appreciate that the 30+ degree day in Sydney was at the very end of winter, but still…I don’t think those two things are the same.

Just sayin its cool down here, below average. So Sydney bit hotter, Southern Victoria … well most of Victoria cooler than usual. Sounds like Sydney’s temperature is a local weather event & not the bogeyman :sunglasses: so why is this a climate change thingy? Thats the point

Okay. Well here’s another point.
Today was the first below average temperature here in a month, so there’s That.

And Sydney reaching 30+ degrees in winter is extremely odd, and yet not even remotely surprising even to you.

But fine.
Your point is, ignore consistently, increasingly, weird crap because of something normal on this day in this place.

Mid 30s in Brisbane for the last week of winter. I noted last year the apparent leap in recent years from winter to summer here with no transition period (ie spring). Kids playing footy finals here in 35c.

For some reason I’ve been thinking about this.

In South West Vic, most places are in fact 2 - 4 degrees C above average for winter.

I’d have thought that “climate change” in general means that everywhere is experiencing temperatures above or below their localised long term averages. Which seems to be happening. Melbourne’s July 2024 temperature was substantially below the 1961-1990 average. That is not negated and cancelled out because Sydney had a 30 degree day in August!

If you don’t think the climate is shifting , you’re ignoring reality.

8 degrees in the Otways midday today… 8. Yes it was a mild winter, so what

You know exactly what. I’ve been quite, quite clear.
But please do keep up the daily updates of average temperatures in specific places. It’s fascinating.

Sydney was very cold as well. It was likely all to do with a heatwave in Antarctica.

Of course this is meaningless because it was 12 degrees on the first of September in southern Victoria.

This makes it 15 months in a row. I think the streak will be broken next month because September last year was extraordinary, even by recent standards.
