Yep, but read in this thread all those bleating about Governments not doing enough regarding environment. They reject my conclusion on we get what we vote for, and do nothing to change it. Isn’t democracy grand !
Actually much of Greens policies are very good, it is just the bizarre behaviour of those in charge of them that does my head in.
Is the question people are asking Albanese after he stated that tackling climate change was the primary challenge of the times and that a vote for him would mean that challenge would be met. People at large do not have time or often the ability to parse policy that changes on the run in any case. They have limited choices, they preference the least bad option. Many do vote Green and they make farking sure that vote doesn’t go to the most bad option. They have to have some little faith that the party which professes to be of and for the common person, when it makes noises about long term civilisational health, are not lying to them. They ■■■■■■■ are.
As you well know there are always people doing much more for their communities and environments than any politician, they just don’t have the taxpayer budgets to implement change on a large scale. Most of your ‘good people’ in politics have, if not self interest at heart, then an unhealthy case of knowing better what’s good for you than you yourself do. A risible lot whatever rear guard you’re pulling in your dotage. I have first hand knowledge of what politicians can do, won’t do, will do rather than the right thing, it’s a nightly ear bashing from my partner whose work for the national science body is good and constantly stymied as a result. I still enjoy your insights nonetheless and share the pain of knowing you will not see another Essendon premiership.
Governments and corporations passing the blame to individuals is so lame.
Individuals don’t have the power to compell all new builds to be solar. They also don’t get to subsidise themselves.
Governments and corporations do.
It’s weak as ■■■■.
edit: interestingly, at least to me, where I am now, they’re trying to ban all non-electric vehicles from the area. I think probably just because it makes things more pleasant, but the point is…an individual can’t do that.
Both major parties have been lambasting the Green for years with this rubbish. They reason that If they spread these lies enough eventually people will begin to believe it. Sure there are tree huggers at lower levels of the party but most of the leaders are now very capable performers.
I have been very impressed with the work of David Shoebridge in the senate.
Regardless of which party you support, everyone who is serious about climate change should now vote for the Greens.
Look at the impact One Nation has made recently. Both major parties are now running scared and sadly are revising their immigration policies to combat the growing threat.
If the Greens can increase their vote to around the same as One Nation both Labor and Libs will start to worry about votes and will see the Greens climate change as the threat to their positions.
We’ll see. This summer doesn’t actually matter too much, from a climate policy point of view. People only vote based on climate policy if there’s climate disasters immediately before the election, and there’s no election next year.
