Climate Change in Australia (Part 2)

Thoughts and prayers as the Pacific Islands do the life aquatic.

Still my favourite climate story… everytime i hear El Niño I think of this:

hey tones you fossil fuel loony,

this is Beijing today

the chinese produce 50% less carbon emissions per person than we do.
there are many other cities with the same problem.
is this level of pollution ok?
if you think not, then other nations will need to decarbonise their economies just so the people who live in cities can breathe.

burning fossil fuels at the rates we are currently is good in the very short term for your mates who profit from it, but only because they don’t bear the full costs of people dying from lung cancer and the other diseases heavy pollution causes.

if only there was an alternative…

Why does anyone give a crap about the exiled jobs for the boys ambassador to the UK who did nothing in his career other than wreck?

The man’s an embarrassment, and I’m embarrassed to have even partially responded to him.

Rent-a-quote Kennett is slightly more relevant.

Before the Chinese economic reforms kicked in, walking with an environmental economist in Tiananmen Square on a clear sunny day. Economist says - When all those bicycles are replaced by cars….

I would prefer bicycles and breathable air.

Too far.
Cyclists suck.
Just give us hybrids.

Bikes are great. I only have to fill up my car every 3 months.

Just…ffs…make them decide whether they’re vehicles or pedestrians.

God, I hate them.

It’s funny because I hate them more than the worst drivers and the most annoying pedestrians.
Because they are worse than both.

goddamn I hate them

Edit: I’ve been in one precisely one road rage incident. With a cyclist. I listened to his garbage before I realised…oh wait…you’re on a children’s toy…and just drove the fark off.

You get to ignore literally everyone.

Yeah, jealous much?

Pretty hard to beat pedestrian slalom on the skateboard though.

You’re confusing jealous with very friggin’ annoyed.
I do not wish to drive my vehicle on the footpath or the wrong way up a one way street, or run the most obvious of red lights with no repercussions.

That’s not jealousy.
That’s just you’re an absolute…

I’ll wear that.
Screw ‘em.
Yeah, there’s jerk drivers but goddamn the Ratio compared to jerk cyclists…

Yeah but there about 55 times more of them than us.

That’s why we got a special deal on carbon reduction initially as a coal producer, when the developings got differential treatment to catch up on industrial production.
(cough suited us as a major coal exporter to DCS like China)

…and we shouldn’t expect people in countries that are in the process of lifting their living standards above poverty to reduce their carbon emissions and consumption levels, if we’re not.

the major driver of pollution is consumption, and we stand with the worst offenders on the planet.
