7 players at least out with hamstrings:

Is this a cluster ? Is it just bad luck, is it the result of supplement use, or is it excessive strength training in the gym ?
In 2012 we had a soft tissue melt down in the last half of the season which was widely attributed to supplement use, without any evidence to support that.
So, if that is true , Collingwood must be on supplements . Wrong conclusion logically . Would Collingwood, or any other club be pushing the limit on supplement use in 2014 ? Not likely .
My main theory is that the Weapon, who ruled at that time was primarily a weight training/ strengthening / gym guy.
I believe that it was simply ( and I emphasise simply because there may be more to it) that he pushed the strengthening of quads way too far. As we know there is a delicate balance between the quad and hamstring, and as the quad is the kicking muscle there would be a temptation to push the strengthening too far. .
Is this just judgement, or is the strengthening program adjusted by some other metrics that can somehow enable the trainer to cut back if the strength training is pushing the limits ?
The point I make is that clusters of soft tissue injuries do occur, not just at Essendon, and there may be causes other than supplement use.
So was the cluster of soft tissue injuries in 2012 caused by a bad strength and conditioning program, too much emphasis on weights,
and what about Collingwood. Same thing? Will we see the Collingwood strengthening manager get the sack now ?
Or is there another possibility, the human body just cannot take 11 months of strengthening, aerobic work, skills work, plus 6 months of competitive contact, jumping, kicking sport. Are we reaching the limit ?
They’ve also had a massive exodus over the last few years.
From fitness staff to key admin staff to senior players.
In fact, ever since we ‘self reported’ you could say they’ve had a massive clean out of their football department. It can’t all be because of Buckley and Eddie.

Well, ASADA did say there was one other team who was being investigated in 2011. Who won the flag the year before?
Did their fitness guy leave and head to Port? Buttress or something like that? They put down the 2010 premiership to his training regime.
Brugess at Port came from the EPL (Liverpool I think), Collingwood's fitness guy (can't remember his name) left and reunited with Malthouse at Carlton.
Apparently there are a lot of causes of hamstring strains , like, older players, playing when tired, overtraining , playing when cold, lack of stretching, and since the playing group all tend to train together at time, a simple mistake in management of training of the group, like training going on for too long, inadequate stretching at the beginning of one group session etc could cause a cluster of problems like this. Once a mistake is made, the scope of lost matches, returning too early, recurrence and desperation to get players back could turn into the nightmare Collingwood are having.
As far as i am concerned Suffer Collingwood, but when it happened to us it also was a disaster which almost certainly destroyed our season.

There is no evidence behind it, but I'm sure that club is going through a cleansing of past issues (be it illicit drugs, crime, poor behaviour, etc). Just remember, this club went from the youngest ever Grand Final winning team on the verge of being the next 'Geelong powerhouse' to now rebuilding through playing kids. They've lost Shaw, Thomas, Wellingham, Dawes and if rumours are correct, they stand to lose Beams as well. I don't see them jumping back up the ladder like We did after 93 (nor like the Hawks did after their first win).
Buckley has a lot of work to do. And supporters are getting tired of waiting.
Even though he is contracted, the Lions are going very hard at him.
But they will not get him if the Pies will not let him go or get what they want. I don't think it is absolutely certain he will leave this year.
Correct. But a change the the FA rules could mean the Pies get nothing for him if he walks at the end of next season.
I don't think he'll leave, but the Pies aren't exactly in the healthy spot they were a few years back.
