Compact Discs

Honestly probably the best capture of pure music and gone by the wayside, just picked up nearly 50 CD’s of great music for around $200, I know streaming is convenient but if your WIFI dies what are you going back too?

Vinyls are cool but get a good CD player and Stezza system it’s the bomb!

Going from Tapes to CD was the best thing ever, I wish my car had a CD player.

I wish CD’s were never invented because it’s left a massive gap in my collection that by rights should be vinyl.
I’ll concede they’re good for the car, if you have a player.
I have so many that just gather dust.

I still clearly remember playing my first CD. It was Love Over Gold by Dire Straits.

When the music started I jumped out of my skin. Normally you had the clicks and pops from the record to tell you the track was starting. Now it was just silence then music.

Yeah, my first listen of Brothers In Arms in headphones at the super-expensive stereo shop almost made me weep.

Here we go, the music is better on CD

That reminds me.
'member berry the XDR tone burst at the start of cassettes?
Which also reminds me…if you got one where it just…the beeps all ran together very fast and it almost sounded like a continuous beep (as many of mine did), should you have taken it back?

Take it to the cassette thread

Oh, I thought this was the superseded format thread.

you and your TDK

I still have all my cds. I still stream my own music (ripped cds) using plex.

I wish SACDs took off. The fidelity of that format was sublime.

I think it was the last format of hard media though, for music

I have a collection of 600-800, loads of good stuff I bought over a period of about 20 years. But they’ve been collecting dust for years because when my last CD player died I never got around to replacing it.

Is it possible to get a decent player these days without spending a lot? Any recommendations?

I do miss spending hours picking which 12 or so songs to burn onto a 72 or 80 minute disc. Taking the time to print the labels and make my own cover art.

I miss having a 5 cd player on shuffle and waiting the 20 or so seconds as it changed discs.

I loved buying imports as Europe and Asia also used CD text. So it would display artist and title.

Last format that was popular. SACDs didnt and DVD Audio didn’t either. Multichannel DVD audio was fun to listen to.

I think I had one minidisc. No idea what was on it.

I love owning physical copies of music, but it’s hard to beat the convenience of high quality streaming services like Tidal.

Membership allows you to download music, make playlists, and listen offline.

I do remember the excitement of being able to purchase CD’s affordably when I was just entering the workforce.
