Command would of been. Unless I’m mistaken police force is not at arms length like the judiciary.

I’m sure that surprised them. Doesn’t mean that attempts should of been made to arrest all protesters.

Why are you done? These idiots have taken part in what could become a massive superspreader event. I don’t really care if they get sick (apart from the poor health staff that will look after them). My concern is with the others they could pass covid onto.
Dan would have approved mobilisation of massive numbers of police. He would have approved the rules of engagement.
What actually was done on the ground was decided by the police command structure that had best real time info. That is the way it should be.
Idiots brought kids into that crowd. That had to factor into the decisions of the police. There’s never a simple answer to stuff like this.
Edit - I’m 100% on board with arresting anyone who is violent or commits other crimes.

I appreciate the sentiment @Joe, I also would love if they were all arrested. But there is a massive logistical issue with arresting (it usually takes more than 1 cop in these situations to arrest 1 person), transporting (do they have enough vehicles?), processing (it takes time and resources to charge someone after being arrested), and remanding (do they have enough cells to place over 1000 people all at the same time?). Then you have to consider feeding these people, not cheap or quick.
Police will generally just target leaders, agitators and let the more peaceful lot go.
Also Dan is not in charge of police command and cannot direct them to do anything. He can make suggestions or get his police minister to try and guide command, but at the end of the day command will make all the frontline decisions as they have to factor a lot of things before they take an action. What a politician says is simply just another voice but not the deciding one.
If you don’t want to vote for Dan then that is your choice, but hang him on something else.

They don’t want to provoke violence, and there’s simply no way they have the capacity to arrest that many people, need to get real about it. Pls think a bit.
Cherry picking the ones they want and taking them out without too much fuss or injury is the way to go, and they did that, and did it very well.
Dumb question but could they just arrest them as they started rocking up in the morning?
