COVID-19 Round 10 - are we there yet?

Didn’t @Chris_1993 do a write up on the USA trial of az

Scotty from marketing " Who’s leaking all this information to the peasants??"
Aide " Tracked it down to something called blitz. They seem to know more than us!!"

They would know. You can’t just turn on international flights like a tap. There is a process that takes a number of days or weeks so for the airlines to start the ball rolling they would have been given a tentative date by the government

Yeah he pointed to a US trial that is ongoing looking at different dose timing.

I don’t remember which study, but at 6 weeks after first AZ dose, efficacy was 10% below final efficacy.

The (many many) million dollar question is how long after a course of doses will effectiveness last.

I could see Australia’s Novavax order playing an important role here - 3rd dose boosters at the end of the year and into 2022 to deal with SA and Brazilian variants, and apparently there is now an Indian variant. Bit like the flu shot with a number of variants built into the shot.

Just last week I heard 2 separate personal accounts of long COVID sufferers in Europe experiencing their symptoms disappear after receiving the vaccine. If there is anything to this, it’s amazing news.

An unexpected potential benefit of these vaccines.

There were reports yesterday of the AZ vaccine doing this - relieving people of long term COVID symptoms. Perhaps it’s time for European leaders to start getting a lot more positive about it.

Seems like Europe’s biggest problem is that they were really slow in making vaccination supply agreements, well behind most other western countries. AZ was trying to help them out by ramping up European based production, but things didn’t go to plan. I feel for the production workers in that plant, they are doing their best, but they must really be feeling all this public pressure - I don’t think that’s fair.

Also, it turns out that the Pfizer Euro plant is critically dependent on a UK factory where the lipid nano particals are made for their vaccine. So, it would seem that blocking export of Pfizer from the EU to the UK would be a real dumb move.

Lol
Do we have anyone in this country capable of leadership other than distraction politics?

This is a rhetorical question. The answer is no.

Get what we deserve.

Pfizer currently testing a protease inhibitor pill as a treatment for COVID-19 infections. According to them, data could from the study could be available in a matter of weeks.

Think of it analogous to tamiflu or relenza which are used for influenza, basically a pill administered at the first sign of symptoms to try reduce clinical severity and suppress viral loads.

There was an article posted about it yesterday. If it proves true it’s probably the best news of the whole pandemic.

30% of people who get Covid get long Covid. There have been more than 125 million people catch Covid worldwide. 30% of that is over 37 million people. Imagine if the vaccine could make a lot of them well again. Incredible

His post was a direct reply to the article I posted…

ABC reporting statement by acting Premier Merlino that interational passenger flights to resume 8 April, initially 800 pw increasing to 1200 after ventilation surveys completed.
Something about Merlino asking National Cabinet to reserve a small number for economic cohorts.

Our local GP clinic receives its 1st batch of AZ vaccines next week. They have been allocated 50 doses per week. Not sure if this is indicative of the roll out across the rest of Victoria.

That could mean that GPs could be forced to prioritise between eligible Phase 1b patients.
My GP was supposed to be advising on scheduling of appointments this week, but so far.nothing.
Feds making a lot about EU blocking supplies which could be used for PNG, but not going so far as to saying that any EU bans are affecting our domestic supply, including via any of our reallocation of domestic supplies to PNG.
