they do get things done

My daughter was tested this morning ( no suspicion of Covid, but needs a negative test result for follow on ) . Only three cars in the line, took about 15 minutes including “paperwork”. It’ll be interesting to see the timeframe for result.

I flew back from Hamilton Island on Saturday.

It was really sad to see more people at Hamilton Island airport than Melbourne airport.

My experience of the permit system was that it was very easy to obtain - it is issued by a bot after filling in some simple information. No one was checking permits when we landed at the airport. It seems that it is simply a tracking information tool for government if you’re flying in from a green zone.

Perhaps if I was flying in from Sydney there might have been people checking permits.

Did you need to provide your residential address?
I guess that someone living in the Sydney red zone would find it relatively simple to falsify an address

FIL had his permit checked when he flew in from Brisbane last week while it was still orange zone.

Not specifically - I had to provide my destination address (which happened to be my residential address) as well as my origin. There were a bunch of declarations, including whether I’d been in a red zone in the last 2 weeks and that I would carry my permit for 2 weeks and produce it to authorised officers if requested.

The fact is, no matter what the system, there are always ways to cheat the system. It’s the same for everything in our society. None (or very few) of us wants to live in a society where everything we do is tightly controlled and instantly punished.

The vast majority of people will still follow directions, and that is all we really need. We have systems in place both to punish those caught not following directions, and to contain a new outbreak, whether that happens innocently or from people not following directives. Our systems have been tested, and they seem to have been pretty effective.

Nothing we do will be 100% effective, and we expect that.

Interesting. Were they checking everyone on his flight or just a random selection?

My assistant flew back from Brisbane on Wednesday last week and said there was no one checking permits.

But how about the thirteen close contacts - How likely is it all had the most exceptional hygiene practices.

There is a theory that she only had a low viral load so not very contagious. I have no idea but it does look like we have dodged a bullet.

Would they be asymptomatic if they had a one day runny nose?

We know they have tested negative.

HEPA filters are the most effective filtration systems which are validated to exclude all particles, including microorganisms, above 0.3 microns with an efficiency of 99.97%. All sterile manufacturing facilities are fitted with such filters.

SA is covid free at the moment. Woo hoo.

Interestingly enough (and this is true for N95 masks also, at a 95% efficiency rating), the 99.97% rating is for particles 0.3 microns in size, which happens to be the least efficient size for these filters to remove. Not only are HEPA filters more effective at removing particles larger than 0.3 microns, but also more efficient at removing particles smaller than 0.3 microns as well, at least during the serviceable life of the mask/filter.

Some filtration systems also combine UV lights to further reduce viral and bacterial loads.

Probably random. He didn’t mention if they checked everyone.

Ooh la la

Wait, people expected a government to deliver on their promised timeline?
When has that happened in the history of ever?
