Should we be asking what racial appearance were the tradies shaking hands, people at the deli, lift occupants etc?
Two Samoas, one a nation , the other a US territory?
Then you have the Virgin Islands, one British, the other US.
After that you get those French places some of which are French overseas dominions, others Territories.
And there is that Dutch territory somewhere in the Caribbean
Those Empire builders never considered the problems they were going to cause for statisticians.
Or maybe some close connections with MPs and donations At Cedar Meats? Best we have an open enquiry and find out
Understood. The question for me is whether the virus is transported to the gut via the esophagus route or from the blood via the nasal mucosa/alveoli .
At some point it gets into the blood and even gets into the brain via that route, apparently, but may or may not effect the functioning of other organs directly. Most of the general organ failure is reputed to be a result of hypoxemia in advanced cases
Illogical nonsense, Lawry. Not least because nobody wins from such a proposed scenario.
It needs to be looked into for errors in public health processes, but this stuff about political interference makes zero sense. What’s the saying, in conspiracy or ■■■■ up put your money on ■■■■ up every time?
Actually depends on what result you are looking for
Yes. I do think they are doing much better than what they were though. I think, just at the minute, they are getting on top of it. Their numbers do have a weekly rhythm to them.
However I find talk of removing restrictions simply outrageous. When considering Trump though, he might just do it. Then we will really see how cold hearted someone who values the economy over lives can be.
I’d be terrified if I was in that country at present.
Just a heads up for those interested. The worldometers site now has projections for each of the US states (found via a link in the last column of the USA table).
I’m not sure on this.
There certainly has been no evidence that the food you eat can cause you to contract the virus unless touched on the outside.
Again, I’m sure people’s behaviours are very different to what it was in February. Wash your hands before and after preparing and eating every meal.
There was the thought that the one large wedding in early March (which was an early cluster) could have come from the food preparation, but it was more likely from human interaction and lack of personal higene in the toilets.
There was some evidence that the chinese could track how the individual got the virus. Whether it was through touch then rubbing their face or just from speaking in close proximity to each other. And there was a very high percentage that came from that. Given they use masks normally (even pre COVID) it’s a surprise that that was the source of the infection. Not sure where I read that though as it was probably the second week of March and not sure whether studies have progressed further.
Interesting article which sounds relevant to our App. Not sure if its been posted as I only infrequently visit this thread.
GNik continues on about eradication even though its been explained that you needed to lock down in mid to late Jan to make this 100% achievable. Anyway continue to hope for the impossible.
I’d be a recluse if i lived in New York.
The cycle here in MO is all over the place…
We’re still under a stay at home order, but there are so many people here that need to run the gauntlet every day, in low paying jobs, just to put a roof over their heads. It maddening!
There is no relief in sight either, with Congress hell-bent on providing corporate welfare while unemployment is at 20% and rising. >26M jobs have been lost, with no end in sight. This country has its priorities screwed up!
It’s starting to look like the beat up to end all beat ups.
The tracers investigated the original case, found there was no contact with the business for four weeks.
Three weeks later there was an outbreak at the business.
The tracers are investigating every one of those cases, too.
I don’t know if they’ll ever find a patient zero there. I hope they do, so they can put at least some people’s mind at rest (I acknowledge that some people will never accept that Dan Andrews didn’t put the virus there personally and then hushed it up, but there’s no helping people like that).
Again, I’m tired of people making a health crisis political.
Half-baked: The COVIDSafe app is not fit for purpose on iPhones

The COVIDSafe app doesn’t work on iPhones in the way it was sold to Australians - at least not yet.
Are tech experts surprised? Not in the slightest. After all, there were always going to be issues in overcoming restrictions with Apple’s privacy-first operating system for smartphones.
What remains questionable, however, is why politicians chose to not communicate these issues clearly with Australians, leaving it to those who know better to point out flaws in the app’s design.

Since its launch on April 26, it’s been revealed the almost $2 million COVIDSafe app faces almost identical problems to its Singapore equivalent. Politicians such as Health Minister Greg Hunt and Government Services Minister Stuart Robert claimed it had overcome them, but following a Senate committee hearing on Wednesday, it’s apparent this is not the case. While improvements were made for launch by adjusting the code, the app remains not fit for purpose on iPhones.

The main issue? It doesn’t always complete digital “handshakes” with nearby phones that also have the app installed if it isn’t running in the foreground (on the screen at all times) or has been installed on an older iPhone model. Additionally, it may not work at all when the screen is locked. Android phones seem OK, but more than 50 per cent of smartphones in Australia are iPhones.

“The quality of the Bluetooth connectivity for phones that have the app installed, running in the foreground is very good,” said head of the Digital Transformation Agency Randall Brugeaud, whose agency is in charge of the app.
"It progressively deteriorates and the quality of the connection is not as good as you get to a point where the phone is locked and the app is running in the background.”
What does this mean? That the app doesn’t always do what politicians say it does, which is keep a list on your phone of everyone you come into close contact with in case you or they get coronavirus so that outbreaks can be contained by health authorities working to identify who needs to isolate.
This is despite Government Services Minister Stuart Robert saying via press release on launch day: "To be effective, users should have the app running in the background when they are coming into contact with others. Your phone does not need to be unlocked for the app to work.”
Health Minister Hunt refused on Wednesday to concede the app didn’t work as intended on iPhones. “It is working and it’s working well. We had the fortune of seeing what Singapore went through.”
The bureaucracy says the issues will be resolved when Apple puts out a global fix, but that’s hardly the point. When you have a Prime Minister, Health Minister and Chief Medical Officer linking this app to the easing of lockdown restrictions, one ought to hope that it does what it says it can do before they are loosened, such as is being considered this Friday via the national cabinet process.
This is a question of efficacy. And it matters.
If restrictions are eased and it’s linked to a half-baked app that was rushed out, that’s a real problem. It provides a false sense of security to millions of Australians, especially as it has been pitched as enabling more thorough contact tracing than is able to be done traditionally via a manual method.

If iPhone users need to keep the app open while a fix is in the works, then that’s what the government should tell them. Don’t treat them like fools and pretend everything is OK or count on it being fixed eventually. Give them the advice they need to hear now that will protect them.
Deloitte puts Australia’s smartphone penetration level among the highest in the world at 91 per cent. Australians are not naive when it comes to technology. They’re early adopters and they understand and embrace it.
But if this sort of misleading or ill-informed messaging continues then it will only further increase the trust deficit Australians have with governments when it comes to anything to do with technology.

The Yanks have been getting on top of it. Daily % increase is below 2% (finally). Testing is much better. They could have achieved so much with 6 weeks of strict lockdown starting now to really get the caseload down.
Instead, guys (so called peacefully) protesting with large guns and the orange one have pushed the agenda in a completely different direction.
In two weeks, might not be looking so good.
Something that I don’t understand: How can protesting with a loaded military style weapon be considered peaceful. Just like they have metal detectors to catch teachers with nail clippers - because that is a dangerous weapon, but the guy with the big loaded gun is invited to walk around it. Ah, America. How good it is to be free.
I agree with @gnik that eradication would be great.
I also agree with @gnik that people are idiots.
I just don’t see how the two can work together.
As such, while I am personally hoping that we achieve eradication. There is no way I would be governing to achieve it, because I think it is extremely unlikely to be sustainable, even if we did achieve it. Maybe one day when we know more.
Where do you get this from?
I continue on about elimination because people keep constantly misrepresenting it - maybe try reading the article I have posted about the two options presented to govt.
Again - according to the modelling submitted to the govt a week or so ago, elimination requires maybe 1 month extra lockdown and achieves better economic and health benefits.
Do you know better?
I’ll just put this wonderful illustration of intelligence here…
Health officials from Washington State in the US have reported that newly diagnosed cases of coronavirus caught the potentially deadly illness on purpose at “COVID-19 parties”.
Walla Walla County health officials say people diagnosed with coronavirus have told county investigators they attended parties specifically organised to spread coronavirus in recent weeks.
Megan Debolt, the director of community health for Walla Walla County, said one of the parties with at least 20 attendees has so far resulted in two positive cases of COVID-19.
I don’t think anyone knows.
We’ve seen a lot of modelling over the past 4 months. Not much of it has ended up correct in hindsight.
Most here are just offering opinions.
Based on the conviction with which yaco posts, I expect he/she thinks that he/she does. The reality might be slightly different.
