I was hoping that Mason Redman was going to win, he had a very good year when the backline was under so much pressure, but I’m really happy for Peter Wright.
What a load of crap. You’d come on here and hear how well Lav played, and you’d think back and say Rids had the tougher opponent, and did a better job.
Saying that though, they definitely didn’t play Rids in his best position.
With all due respect to Guelfi and Will Snelling (players who I admire and who deserve some recognition), the fact Guelfi finished ahead of Redman this year and Snelling ahead of Stringer last year raises some serious questions about those awarding the votes…
You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks Redman wasn’t our best or second best player this year. I’m really scratching my head as to how he finished 4th.
The facts are, its harder to play forward than on the ball or back. 20 forward possessions is greater than 20 back or on-ball possessions.
What is the ratio? At a guess, 1:1.5. Its good to see that votes at the EFC seem to reflect this….nearly all forward possessions are usually physically contested for after all
Out of interest sake - here’s how Blitz voted on the year. Obviously it’s not a like-for-like system, but interesting to see the fans vs the coaches & where they saw it all.
Also shout-out to @Alan_Noonan_10 who does a great job collating the votes for the Nobby each year.
The most interesting thing to me is that Blitz thought Shiel had a better year than the coaches did. Never in a million years would I have thought that would be the case.
