This is why the club really needs to release (or at least show on the night) the full votes tally, round by round.
You would expect that if they played more games, Ridley and Parish are in top 10.
Jones cracked top 10 with not many votes. Maybe he got there with only a few high vote games but not consistent vote getting, and perhaps Heppell or someone only had one or two votes less than Jones.
Be as sarcastic as you like, but the fact that we haven’t had a single good season between three top 10 draft picks - after four years - is a ■■■■■■■ lousy return.
It’s completely meaningless. Especially with a voting system that values games played above all else.
Is Perkins a lock best 22 next year if fit? If yes then he’s going OK, and if he stays fit he would likely be top 10 in the Crichton.
Cox has obviously been stuffed around trying to find a position and with injury. Who knows what he does going forward. He could be legitimately good, or he could be nothing. I’m not convinced Jones is particularly better than him, beyond playing a couple more games this year.
Reid, who would know. He needs to get on the park.
But that draft was always going to be a slow burn, especially for Melbourne based juniors. Looking through the draft it was only this year that guys started making an impact, and 2 of our guys have had more injuries than most. Next year might see the leap, and if it doesn’t then for sure we can be concerned, but it’s the rest of the list that I’m more worried about. Guys like Parish and Ridley being completely absent is why the top 10 ended up with so much questionable quality in the back half.
Good, considered response. And I hope your top 10 prediction for next year ends up being accurate.
That draft hasn’t been good for us…so far. Let’s hope the situation starts to turn in 2025. I think Reid and Perkins have a lot of ability, but neither have really impacted for different reasons. I’m not entirely sold on Cox, but I think there were improvements in some important areas this year. Fingers crossed for next year and beyond…
It’s a sad reflection of recent draft history that the only player we picked in the national draft since 2017 to make the top 10 is Jones
Our saad, smith, stringer, shiel recruitment cost us the top end of 3 drafts, and the following top end picks of cox, perkins, reid, hobbs and tsatas just simply not breaking through is left us devoid of that elite talent that should be coming through the top 10 now. This is the big problem with our list
