Spot on.
I thought he was really for most of the year but finished off like the rest of the team. Don’t have a problem with where he finished in the B&F.
The disparity is probably better than what Blitz expected.
Different voting principles, but using Merrett as the benchmark, here are a few results…

The B&F smooths out the disparities because of the voting (everyone gets rated) which then flattens out an individuals highs and lows. Us nuffies vote on solely 3 players performance and it’s usually based on comparison to previous performances (i.e. Martin gets judged on what he could be producing, not on what he is producing). And the umpires are obviously heavily focussed on midfielders.
So B&F had Merrett, Martin and Durham on one tier, then McGrath Caldwell and McKay on another tier, then Langford, then Stringer and Mckay, then Jones and whoever else was hovering around his score.
Whereas the Nobby had Merrett, massive gap, then Caldwell, Durham & Martin, then a massive gap then everyone else.
Interestingly, last years B&F didn’t had as much disparity between top and the rest. So it’s clear there is more competition within the top 10 than last year.

2022 seemed to be the Rutten ‘happy clapper’ coach where the competition is high within the top 10 but there wasn’t as much disparity.

In fact…
Looking further back, the Rutten regime was a weekly ‘happy clapper’ sorority party. Something that Macrae gets praised for and what some here have said Scott needs to do more of (at least outwardly if he isn’t doing it already).

It’s pretty obvious the coaches are setting a far higher standard to earn B&F votes. Which is in line with what we want (even though we don’t like the result).
I’m pretty comfortable with the way the coaches are voting.
One thing I will never understand is how brilliant Perkins was in the 1st game : 3 votes Archie Perkins ( and here I am thinking “wow breakout year” ) and was almost invisible for the rest of the season.
At least we did have one breakout player.
I’m sure it’s already been said but pretty concerning/frustrating that not even one of our top 10 picks from 2020 (Perkins, Cox or Reid) could break into that mediocre looking top 10 at the Crichton. All for various reasons, I know, but wow. Such a waste.
