Cyril Rioli - why he left Hawks

It would mean nothing to me if an apology was worded that way instead of how Kennett worded it. I dont think it needs to be explicitly stated that he takes responsibility for his actions, it is obvious that he is responsible thats why he is writing an apology letter.

However it would mean something to the Riolis. Which is the entire point

I would prefer an actual apology than another insult pretending to be an apology, followed by the indignation of my not accepting the insult.

The worst thing Jeff Kennett ever did was berate a 20 year old player, who was suffering from severe mental health issues at the time, for smiling in public.

He also went online after that and bragged about it. He was so farking dumb that he didn’t realise he was the bad guy.

They can be as specific as they like about how they want apologies worded but in the end the only important thing is if Kennett was actually sorry.

I think your putting a lot more thought into it then Kennett did. He probably just meant to say hes sorry.

which he showed by his actions, literally a month later, that he wasn’t

bears repeating this all happened during the Indigenous round too

edit: why the ā– ā– ā– ā–  are you defending Jeff Kennett, I genuinely want to know

Lol.
He’s sorry she was offended.
He’s not sorry for anything he said.
This is not difficult.

Then he would say ā€œI’m sorry for my wordsā€ and not ā€œI’m sorry about your reactionā€

Well played

Hed probably word it however he wants and not overthink it instead of wording it in a way that Sniggles from bomberblitz would approve of.

You asked why people had an issue with his ā€œapology,ā€ I replied in good faith.

He should have worded it in a way that Cyril Rioli of the Hawthorn Football Club approves

Moral grandstanders gonna moral grandstand.

This is the biggest thing that got lost in that trainwreck of an article. It’s a massive story, along with someone commentating that ā€œall the dark fellers sit togetherā€. How is this not a massive deal for the media in finding out who said it?!?!

That’s a very interesting perspective.

I have no opinion on the article.
What I do accept is that given Rioli’s sudden departure, that he hasn’t returned and has no plans to return, that there is a real issue between him and the club that hasn’t been resolved.

I find it very odd that some are keen to jump on scraps that have been made public, to form the view they have, and also that they’re so keen to post so very much on who happens to be an aboriginal player.

Yep, absolutely crazy this wasn’t the focus.
Even more so given the jeans comment has been reported multiple times over the years.

I appreciate that but the point is apologies shouldnt need to go through a checklist. If Kennett says hes sorry then thats all there is to it. The intent is whats important.

I’m sorry you feel that way.

It got lost in the article because Jeff Kennett didn’t say it

The senior hawks members of staff who made those comments should be outed

There’s only one item on that checklist: accept responsibility. He didn’t do that.

Fair enough if you and I interpreted his words differently. That’s fine, we’re different people. Jeff’s subsequent indignation should have put that to rest however.
