Barham is responsible for his own demise.
No way he could survive after his ill-considered rant.
It was just a question of (not much) time before he fell on his sword.
Whether it prefigures anything else - who knows?
Itās his turn. We all get a go.
Love this idea. Get Kelly in as an assistant. Probably way too sensible and idea for us though.
Just like Russian Roulette
From EFC website 17 Feb 21:
James Kelly says an off-season of positive change under new senior coach Ben Rutten has made it difficult to depart the Bombersā coaching panel.
The 37-year-old last week resigned from his position as assistant coach to care for his two young sons on a full-time basis.
It ended a five-year reign at Essendon for the former Geelong star, who arrived at the club as a top-up player in 2016 before joining its coaching panel in 2018.
Kelly said he left the Bombers at a promising time with Rutten at the helm.
āI think theyāre well and truly on the right path, which is the difficult part of stepping back,ā Kelly told RSN 927.
āI feel thereās some really good change that has happened. āTruckā (Rutten) has done a really good job, and last year was really good for him to get his ducks in a row and figure out what he wanted.
āThe way heās coached this year has been great. Heās coaching the culture of the footy club first, with no real change to the way weāre playing. Already in pre-season, the players are training at a far higher level with a greater grasp on the concepts we were introducing last year and a little bit the year before.
āHeās (Rutten) bedded down some really strong cultural things. Thatās the hard part (about leaving) for me, because Iām a culture-first guy and have seen some really positive change.ā
No, not really, because someone wins in Russian Roulette.
Handovers are stupid and Kelly is already an assistant at a much better club. Just give him the f-ing job.
Sack him.
I really enjoy watching our 3 year coaching stints, and then we realise they canāt coachā¦. So we bring in a shiny new toy for another 3 years.
So a new President comes in and just parachutes in a new coach while the old coach is still under contract?
Glad to see weāre as process-driven as ever.
A Blitzer with 0 demonstrated ITK track record posted it so we are all now pricing it in as 100% certain with the next 48 hours. Giddy up.
Always kicks the ball sideways.
ā¦. and I was worried it may not be true!
That worked awesome for Rutten (and Ken/carr, and Bucks/malthouse)
So instead of losing Merritt we lose Barham and Scott. I think most would accept that.
Kames Jelly..
Eventually itāll click.
And a disgruntled Scott goes back to work for the AFL.
Yes and no. He did some good things, very good things but the execution was a bit messy at times (Clarko, changing CEO), maybe thatās just how itās had to happen. I think he worked very hard but probably not ultimately suited to the role long term. Changes to recruiting staff, fitness and back office I think will prove to be very good long term. We could have a few less ex North Melbourne staff. Dont want to stack the place with all ex players but employing people from successful clubs makes sense. Club is at the cross roads for sure, will be interesting to see what direction Andrew takes us in. I like a young President, being loaded probably helps a bit if he wants to focus on the club full time. Thanks Dave, good luck Andrew.
Iād like to thank Dave for having a go and trying to set the Club on the right path. I think he has done that and pain was inevitable. And a credit to Dave for falling in his sword and not creating further instability, for which he tried to limit under the circumstances of a transformation. Itās easy to sit in the bleachers and throw rotten tomatoes!
