David Barham - Our former Board Overlord

Can he grow a handlebar mow like The Game.

This was always going to happen and entirely predictable. It’s maybe just a little sooner than expected.

I, for one, am willing to give him a go before making any judgements. I like that he’s younger and obviously has a bit of acumen, and I expect he’ll get a lot more cut-through than Dave, which we’ve been crying out for. And he’ll also present a lot better.

I don’t understand why this should mean a rebuild is off the table. He’s been the footy director, so he will be on board with the direction. I expect it means that Scott no longer has his golden ticket. He has to work for it now.

Dave had to go. He’s gone. Now we can move forward.

Barham’s rearguard action in resignation announcement (will it succeed ?):

I have enormous faith in both Brad Scott and Craig Vozzo. They are the future and will lead us to success. They are talented, committed professionals who have outstanding values, and it has been a pleasure to work with them. They both put the Club first always.

Are we supposed to infer others did not?

Should have seen this coming when it was Welsh that met with Merrett.

Hate to be the bubble popper on this Kelly thing.

But apparently the Welsh handover was more a move to prevent any real challenge and it’s just to preserve the current status quo within the club.

That doesn’t rule out a coaching changeover but where I’ve heard it from, says from what they’ve heard, it’s not the plan but acknowledge that there’s always a chance details have been left out, or missed.

Welsh is already on the Board.

Barham has stated he will be leaving the Board, ergo there will soon be a Board vacancy.

Just a follow up detail. Apparently this exact changeover was planned to happen prior to the 2026 AGM, but they decided to do it sooner to appease some outside pressure and avoid any real challenge from the dreaded boogeymen

This seems the more obvious reason.

But I’m still all in on Pops Kelly

Don’t know the specifics to that level of detail, but I think if you crossed reports and narratives it’d be a good guess

There’s a chance that seeing Brad out is part of the plan I guess, what I’ve heard doesn’t categorically rule it out. Preserving the status quo could still be seen as just a move to protect Vozzo, McPherson and Rosa. But that’s only me hypothesising rather than having heard anything. I doubt it

Did anyone see Andrew Demetriou as AFL CEO when he was just a player?

Did anyone see Brendon Gale as CEO of Richmond when he was just a ruckman for the Tigers and before he had his law degree?

Did anyone see Eddie Macguire as President of Collingwood and AFL ā€œpower brokerā€ when he was a cub reporter.

How about we give the guy a chance.

Getting rid of Barham and Scott, while protecting Vozzo and Rosa, and it having nothing to do with Little/Dodo/Hird coming back, is about the best result I could hope for. But you know what they say about things that sound ā€˜too good to be true?ā€

Don’t get a narrative that this will keep Merrett here, if anything it’s easier to to now budge on Barhams original statement

You know how people threaten to be done with the club if ā€œsomethingā€ happens… well they had better not let ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  Dodoro back through the doors into a recruiting or list management role.

Ah. The old ā€œI need to spend more time with my familyā€ routine. The covid lock down hubs really were an interesting time for many at EFC

I like to think no one would ever be that stupid…apart from maybe Kevin
