David Barham - Our former Board Overlord

If Welsh brings James Kelly then I apologise and am all on board.

Barham had his issues and didn’t vote to return him last year but my ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  god! This club and an inability to see through a plan…

See you all here again in 2-3 years.

Yeah this sounds like a good move all round. A young hungry coach from a good football club. Im all for keeping Brad at the club but that was because I couldnt see anyone who would want to come here that would be able to cope. Maybe James is the guy

Years?

Does Pops know that he is going to be our new coach?

@Stallion please do your announce thing

I’ve been pretty consistently saying this since he was first appointed.

Fair enough. I’ve never really seen the big problem with Welsh.

But maybe that’s because I was one of the few who liked him as a player and that’s clouding my judgement.

This was always going to be a very hard roll for Scott and he really blew it by not cutting harder, earlier. Maybe the current state could be forgiven if the game-plan and style were promising…but the past 3 years has literally been the ugliest and most boring football the club has played for 2 decades.

Kelly appointment is exactly the sort we’ve needed since forever. It’s what Truck was (if only we’d supported him).

I’d honestly rather Brad eat ā– ā– ā– ā–  for another 1-2 years to pave the way for Kelly (or someone like him) though.

Excuse my ignorance, but, what is the basis for the belief James Kelly could become our Coach?

Well done to Dave stepping down opposed to hanging around like a bad smell. He achieved a lot of good things and cut out a lot of rot, mostly related to replacing underperforming key positions.

He also presided over some bungling, oafish decisions. Most notably the mickey mouse coaching process which saw Brad Scott begged to take the job, the subsequent Scott extension, the Thorburn debacle, and of course that deplorable haircut.

Having the president no longer tethered to Bradford is absolutely a positive.

Hopefully Welsh doesn’t preside over his own series of bungling decisions. We shall see.

I really hope not!
How hypocritical would that be… criticise merrett for breaking contract then follow up with breaking contract with scott!
That would be the most basket case decision to make.
If they think there is a problem with the coaching they should get better assistants to help him.

As crap as we’ve been, I have been wanting the club to stick with Scott for another 18 months to at least see if it was the right call. Draper, Ridley and Merrett all wanting out has made me change my tune. I think there is a disconnect between the playing group and Scott, and I’d be ALL IN on James Kelly. Knows the Essendon way well (and what is so wrong), but he knows the Geelong way better!

Three years is pretty standard for a Bomber President. It is those on the Board who do not contribute and hang around for 9 years that is perhaps a bigger issue.

No one cares about Zach breaking a contract. Its the way he went about it that is the problem.
