I agree. He’s not naturally a perfect performer on radio / TV. However, he was pretty solid.
Some fans don’t quite understand the lines of command in a football club. Unless there’s a serious situation involving an employee, the President / Board don’t make operational decisions about the club or individual employees. That’s why they appoint a CEO. It’s the CEO’s role to analyse, review and make changes to personnel, other than the senior coach.
Dave correctly argued it’s Vozzo’s job to review ‘List Management’ (Dodoro) and make decisions with support of Brad Scott. That’s ultimately what will happen. Dave was clear in arguing Vozzo is well equipped to make that call based on his strength of his skills in this area.
My hunch is that in the short / medium term Dodoro will move on. I’m guessing he will be less involved in the decision making of draft prospects, focussing on finalising trades, the 2024 TPP and contracts up for renewal. And he will depart early next year. I have no info, just a guess based on how I’m reading what and how things are being said.
“Personally I think there’s a really unhealthy obsession with the one person who has been the only constant employee in a crucial role during our long long period of zero success. I just can’t work out why.”
I’m ok if we have future list management failures.
One of my big issues atm is we are never honest with the state of our list or our past list management decisions. We allways overrate the list and we allways deflect blame, it was injuries or development or luck.
If worst case the next list manager is worse than Dodorro I think we will still be better off, because we will be in a situation to learn from the mistake and rectify it.
I thought he interviewed well, much better then the first couple of interviews he had last year by gosh!
I agree with others, reading between what was and wasn’t said is that Dave expects Vozzo and Scott to come back to him with a recommendation - and it’s pretty safe to assume that recommendation will be Dodoro needs to be moved on and I would almost guarantee it will happen after trade/free agency. It would be incredibly dumb to do it now.
Dodoro is not the only problem the club has, is the point I’m trying to make. It’s isn’t a simple matter of Step 1: sack Dodoro; Step 2: ???; Step 3: Profit!
