Derek Kickett returning to Windy Hill

Torps, bullit passes, underground handballs, 30m handpasses, species, baulks, blind turns… he could do it all. Probably the most exciting player I’ve seen pull on the red and black.

Although I try to forget it, he was probably our best player in the 90 grand final

Best fighter, certainly.
We had one good player in that game, and it wasn’t Kickett.

Sporn ?

FOJ

Thought he was below his best also, after twisting his ankle badly in the late season victory over Collingwood at VFL Park.
Never quite got his fitness back.

I said good.

I remember in 93 him kicking a torp from the center square against west coast in the jacket waving game. One of my all time favourite games. It was a set shot though.

What makes that play even better was he took that contested mark against J Worsfold. The resulting goal was unbelievable but the preceding mark was just as good.

Now I want to watch that game again.

Worsfold did everything except spoil the mark. It was a great grab.

i thought the same

I don’t think he cares too much for the game anymore. I was working at a bar when the Sydney and Essendon game was on last year, and Derek turned up with some mates to hang out. The game was on the TV in the bar, but he wasn’t paying any attention to it at all, despite it being the two clubs he played the most footy for.

I myself was trying to avoid the game so I could watch it when I got home and ended up loudly cursing those final few minutes in the wee hours of the night.

He was named in our bests that game, iirc he instigated a mini come back in the second.

He knew how to lay a shirt front too. Seem to recall ironing out woosh at some point.

I’ll take your word for it, I’m not going back there.
But, since I’m a born argumentalist, it must have been a mini-mini comeback, considering the whole five goals thing.

No you’re not.

Heckled the crap out of me and our Full Back one day…we were getting spanked by Rumbalara and him and his mates were behind the goals giving us a spray…in fun.

Who were you playing for? Rumba’s supporters can get very involved at times from what I’ve seen!
