Looks like McMahon’s hand was stood on but hopefully he’s OK - Laverde though doesnt come off unless he’s really hurt so I assume he might be out for the rest of the year…
WE really dont have many other players we can bring in..!! Maybe;-
The kids were great last night and most of the senior players played their best games for the year.
Assuming Merrett is fit he has to come in El Hawli probably makes way.
What do you do with Shiel? He might replace Menzie, who simply can’t kick for goal.
The issue with bringing either or both of these back is it will throw out the balance of last night. For this reason I would leave Shiel out.
Merrett is a star; but he is ruining the flow into attack, not his fault, poor coaching/game plan. Regularly many of the kids and some of the senior players get the ball they look to handball or short kick to Merrett, often backwards. Oppositions are aware of this and use it to slow our ball movement. We need to become less reliant on Merrett and move the ball forward quicker, trusting other players to hit targets.
As this is Essendon, I would doubt Lav or McMahon will get up, so welcome Gerreyn and, hopefully, May will be right to go.
In/Out: Merrett for El Hawli, Gerreyn for Lav, May for McMahon (injuries dependent) & maybe Vigo for Goldy. Goldy back for the Gold Coast. Menzie sub.
I would leave Saad in. He provides a point of difference for us and something that Caaarlton lacks, plenty of pace and dash. He is capable of playing in different positions and made a difference last night once he came on.
If Lav is injured, it might be an opportunity for another debut with Gerreyn. Assuming Merrett is fit, he comes in, but I’d startt him forward. Menzie out.
Does Shiel get a game? If he’s leaving, they might want to play him. Hobbs out, in that case.
