DO NOT DRINK - water warning issued for 88 Melbourne suburbs

Weaklings.

I drink from muddy puddles when going bush and turn out just fine.

And havent ya heard of boilin it?

Depends whether the water provider has an arrangement with owners or occupants. In the past the supply of water was part of property and therefore the company/city had the arrangement with the property owner, not the occupant.
When I worked at Gold Coast Water we didnt know who 30% of our consumers were due to the fact they were renting. Its a problem. And now with AirBnb its even worse. If the company has an arrangement with the occupants like the electricity industry its a bit better, but still not perfect.
And you really need it when dams are at risk.

Raw water or raw sewage?

My parents live in Mooroolbark. Called them up around lunchtime to make sure they weren’t drinking water or preparing food using tap water. They had absolutely no idea there was an issue! “Yeah we went to the shops and noticed lots of people buying bottled water…”

Neighbours’ fence collapsed. My car was parked outside it, fortunately it didn’t fly off into my car nor their house.

I found out at 11 when my wife rang me. Both kids had downed heaps of water by that stage and so far so good. There are a few huge trees down around me and power lines on the ground. Luckily my power stayed on.

One way to lose weight in a hurry.

I’ve spent most of my life drinking tank water - never a problem. Can someone tell me how this is different? (Serious question - must admit I’m not in Vic so haven’t kept up with the finer details)

Still no update from Yarra Valley? Seriously? Whoever runs their comms needs to be fired

Your tank water is controlled. You clean your roof, water is sieved before it goes into you tank etc.
This situation, from the little I have read, is uncontrolled. Raw water from the dam has either infiltrated, or been pushed through, the network. If it’s raw water from the dam, it hasn’t been treated nor disinfected which means it doesn’t meet the Australian standards for potable water. Ergo you should boil it. Having said that it’s probably a lot better standard than half the world are forced to use.

@Paul_Peos left the toilet yet?

Thanks. Must admit we had our tank water tested at one stage & the comment was that it’s cleaner than Melb water. (At that stage straight off the roof, no filtration).

I just had my turn. Ugh. Not good

All I know is now I have an excuse to drink lots and lots of beer this weekend because I can’t drink the water.

From giardia induced flatulence on your part?

Apart from buggering up our water supply, that wind brought a massive number of trees down with some absolutely tragic results.

A lot of very tragic things have happened but what I just did to my toilet bowl would be right up there

I certainly hope you brushed it.
