Only twice this century. In 2019 when Sydney were in a mini rebuild, and in 2022 when we pulled off an upset as Sydney were on their way to the Grand Final.
Reid will be fine in a week.

Weâve lost contested marks 28-4 over the last two weeks. If we move Caddy down back it might get even worse.

Bombers did play South Melbourne in 1923 in a semi final at the G.
It was a âspecial yearâ during post wartime with 9 teams. swans beat us in the Semi-Final, but as Bombers finished on top of the Ladder, we progressed to the GF and Swans had to play Preliminary Final vs Fitzroy who beat them.
We beat Fitzroy to win the flag

We would only have played South Melbourne at the MCG in finals. (Young people may not know that)
That club was historically crap post WW2 so would not have played finals. They were OK in the 1930âs but that was our nadir*.
*Natural, not imposed by cheating Rsoles like currently

Last MCG game of the year against a hungry Swans team starting to hum at the right time of the year.
Coaching announcement comes this week, perhaps weâll see a new coach bounce, in particular if theres some Hird buzz in particular I expect vs a Davis appointment.
Be good for the new coach and Solomon to immediately have some dialogue and input even if only 2 games left. Some huge months upcoming for the club with the list management period the most crucial we have ever had.
If we do appoint Hird the umpiring on Sunday will be one for the ages.
They might even bring Troy Pannell out of retirement / jail.

If having a red hot go, cracking in, tackling, second and third efforts, and planning for 2027 were even vaguely relevant, then Jayden Nguyen would get a gig next week and a contract extension. This has got that wonderful Tenor Massimo DâAmbrosio written all over it. Playing Gresham and Jones is a waste. Gresham is top shelf VFL. Jones is a good chap.
