I would drop El Akar and not play him again until he loses weight and presents like an AFL footballer (standards).
I would drop Kako and tell him to learn workrate in the VFL.
I would accept these changes will hurt the short term (structurally bad against Swans) but for me it’s about 2027 and beyond and establishing required standards and culture for young players.
Essendon have 58 tackles inside 50 total the last 4 games (avg of 14.5). Close to number 1 in in AFL the last month. I realise Kako has been quite but i sense he won’t change that mix.
Huss is averaging a goal a game, as a small forward in a bottom of the ladder side, that is more than enough to hold his spot. Only reason to drop Huss would be if he needed to qualify for VFL finals. Hopefully he gets a full preseason and come back in ripping nick next year.
I would drop Kako though. He needs a bit of a rocket. And also playing at lower level, getting a win and kicking some goals would get his confidence up.
I don’t think Kako should be given credit for his output on Saturday, his tackling efforts weren’t AFL standard. I was really disappointed in how he went about it.
Again, respectfully I don’t care about his stats so much at this point.. He’s fat and it’s not acceptable.
He needs to get fit and lose weight, he will be a much better player for it. We can’t look past low standards based on some decent stats. To me, this is where great development programs compare to ordinary ones where poor standards are accepted.
It’s a positive but stern convo about how good he can be if he’s a highly professional AFL athlete.
Oliver also looks fat, I’ve had a better rig than him in years gone by, but he has racked up plenty of 30+ games.
sometimes you got to look at more than the aesthetics. Otherwise we would be playing Guelfi and Perkins every week.
El Achkar needs to get fitter but FFS, he can do that over the offseason. He’s playing his role pretty well and we aren’t exactly stacked with options.
El-Achkar is durable, and he gets to the fall of the ball and he is kicking goals and offering defensive pressure. And we literally have noone else in the VFL anyway, due to Greshams contract trigger.
As Chris said El-Achkar, can work on getting fitter and his physique in the off season.
Jeez El Achkar is probably one of the players I’d least be going at based on their contribution to team and application to their role… yeah he obviously has levels to go up fitness wise but you regularly see him gut running and swarming to pressure which has been a huge weakness of ours. Can already start to see that turning around as alluded to by CJohns
Will we get to 20k and how many of those will be Swans fans being in the graveyard shift again. Crowd watch has taken on its own perverse curiosity as the season has gone on.
